Many orchid owners can remember every step of their orchid care routine clearly, yet forget when they fell into the trap and started growing this slightly "delicate" grass. The little gardener found that when caring for orchids, there is a contradictory little problem, and that is the conflict between "ventilation" and "moisture retention." Orchid owners, let's take a look together.

1. Growing orchids involves a pair of "sworn enemies"

When growing orchids, ventilation is certainly the first priority, so the second priority might be moisture retention. These two most basic requirements are theoretically somewhat contradictory, just like a pair of sworn enemies: if ventilation is too good, humidity will be relatively low; if humidity is high, there is the fear of poor ventilation and stuffy dampness. Whether it is dryness from too much airflow or stuffy dampness, both have a negative impact on orchid growth, ranging from poor growth at best to death at worst. What should be done?

2. Growing orchids requires balancing both sides

This naturally is no challenge for experienced orchid growers. The little gardener will learn by imitation and teach you. Let me express the experienced grower's idea in my own words. He said that to solve this contradiction, we cannot separate "ventilation" and "moisture retention" into two separate things, but must balance both. The way to balance them is to make adjustments through care.

3. First trick: Adjust the macro environment

The first adjustment method is to adjust the macro environment for growing orchids. It is simple: if the place where you grow orchids has good ventilation, then appropriately increase humidity by directly placing a water basin on the ground, or use an air humidifier to increase humidity. If humidity is relatively high and ventilation is insufficient, then a fan can step in and artificially increase ventilation. Once the macro environment is handled, what about the micro environment in the pot? It also needs adjustment.

4. Second trick: Adjust the micro environment

Start with the growing medium. Ventilation is actually also about ensuring the "air" the roots need. For beginner orchid owners, granular growing medium is very useful and has good breathability, but if the granules are too large, it is not good for growing roots, and if too small, it is also unfavorable. The experienced grower's suggestion is that you should best choose granules as large as a broad bean and as small as a soybean; also try to select granular growing medium, and naturally a 2-part fine soil in the pot is indispensable. This is the most reasonable approach.

Next, let's talk about watering, which has a relatively large impact on the pot soil environment. The little gardener will not say much about watering. Try to wait until the pot soil is about 2 parts dry before watering. The four words "water thoroughly when dry" must also be analyzed according to the environment. Actually, for orchids, letting the pot soil dry out completely is very dangerous, so we must ensure a certain level of humidity and always have a spray bottle ready to mist water and increase humidity. This is also necessary.

5. The "finishing touch"

After balancing these two points, our orchids will naturally grow extremely well. The experienced grower said that at this time there is still a "finishing touch," and that is to use Huadongde organic nutrient solution for root strengthening to supplement fertilizer. Strengthen the roots, and once the roots are strong, the orchid plant's resistance can also increase, making it less prone to illness. Whether it is sprouting or flower bud differentiation, it will be better. When it is almost time for flower bud differentiation, then use organic nutrient solution for promoting flowers to ensure flower quality.

When growing orchids, as we slowly ponder it, we will find that "moisture retention" and "ventilation" are a pair of sworn enemies. However, when growing orchids, we must balance both points at the same time, so that our potted orchids at home can grow well. Beginner orchid owners, quickly write this down.
