Fellow rooting enthusiasts, have you been troubled lately? Anyway, this year has gone smoothly for me, and compared with before, the survival rate has improved quite a bit, about 95%, which was of course a delightful surprise. Next, I will not say more of these show-off words, let us get to something practical. Fellow flower growers, look carefully.

The biggest difference this year compared with last year is the temperature. Although last year the whole cutting schedule was arranged rather late, the high temperatures still lasted for a long time, so it was still quite hot and dry right up to cutting time. This year there has been relatively more rain, and it was basically high temperatures after rain, so it was not so dry. You could say it was high humidity plus high temperature, so a large part of the credit for achieving such a survival rate comes from this year's weather.

When I did cuttings before, I always used the cutting 2.0 method. Maybe because of lack of experience or other reasons, several times they were completely wiped out, which was really heartbreaking, beyond words.

Later I happened to see other flower growers say that cuttings in flower pots also work, so I could not resist trying it, and unexpectedly the results were very good. When I used 2.0 cuttings, they did not survive indoors, but they rooted when grown in pots. At that time the potting mix was northeastern peat soil plus leaf bran mixed with some granules.

For regular fertilizing, I use an organic liquid fertilizer specially made for roses, diluted 500 times, watered into the roots once a week. The cutting seedlings grow very well, just waiting to bloom beautifully.

This year I took over the air conditioner outdoor unit, because the balcony really had no space left, so to be safer I put them on the outdoor unit. This way it is an outdoor environment, with no need to be baked by hot air. So this year was a combination of pot cuttings and being outdoors the whole time, and the ventilation could be said to be very good. Even in the middle of summer, the cutting survival rate was still very high.

Compared with before, besides the choice of flower pots, probably a large part of the reason was ventilation. Moving from indoors to outdoors, the ventilation environment changed dramatically, and it also came with an increase in light intensity. Compared with indoors, the whole environment, ventilation, and light all went up by more than one level. These small aspects may look insignificant, but in fact they still play a big role.

Another thing is a habit I have kept for a long time. I personally think it is quite good, so I am sharing it with you. When taking cuttings, after we choose the branches, I usually habitually use a razor blade to trim the branches. One reason is that it has a small area and strong flexibility, so it damages fewer cells, there are very few black stems, and it roots easily. Also, garden scissors and this kind of blade can both be used; as long as you feel it works well, there is no real difference. Now that I take more cuttings, in order to use blades to trim branches, I specially bought a box of ultra-thin blades, 100 pieces, to keep on hand. They are really good, and I sincerely recommend them to everyone.

As for disinfecting the blades, I have always done a poor job, because I am too lazy. In the past I used potassium permanganate, carbendazim, and so on, and they all turned black in various ways. I did not use any of these disinfectants, nor did I use rooting powder. It is not that I do not like them, I am just too lazy. Only when using the blade did I wipe it with alcohol, and that really is already my limit. It cannot get any more troublesome.

In short, I am very lazy. Fortunately, a lazy person has found a lazy method, and now it is still pretty good. I wish you all can also have the good fortune of lazy people!
