Taichung City Innovation Design Competition: Mayor Lin Chia-lung Says It Will Shape Taichung's Urban Aesthetics

To let design energy drive urban aesthetics and industry development, the Taichung City Economic Development Bureau held the first "Taichung Innovation Design Competition." Yesterday (the 4th), the finals selected 20 outstanding works, and Mayor Lin Chia-lung personally presented the awards. Mayor Lin Chia-lung said the city government is bidding to host the 2022 "World Design Capital" and has designated this year as the "Year One of Design." This event showcased excellent innovative design works, and the city government also worked with local industry associations to provide matchmaking opportunities, hoping that through innovative design, the aesthetics of the entire city can be shaped.

The finals and award ceremony of the Taichung Innovation Design Competition were held on the 4th at the City Hall. Mayor Lin Chia-lung presented awards to the winning design teams in the Professional Group and the Startup Group for gold, silver, bronze, honorable mention, and Best Popularity Award, and visited the venue one by one to view the outstanding innovative design works that had made the shortlist.

Mayor Lin Chia-lung said that participation in the "2018 Taichung Innovation Design Competition" was very enthusiastic, with 307 entries and 55 shortlisted works. The final selection took place on the 4th. The city government also worked with local industry associations on matchmaking so that outstanding innovative design works could be put to better use and have the chance to become brands. At the scene, one could fully feel that the works, whether by young people or professional designers, were all of very good quality.

The first "Taichung Innovation Design Competition" drew 307 entries, and 55 shortlisted works were selected across categories including cultural creativity, hand tools, wood art, precision machinery, woodworking machinery, components, bicycles, toys, eco-friendly materials, and health, sports and leisure technology. A judging panel then selected the gold, silver, and bronze awards, honorable mentions, and Best Popularity Award for the Professional Group and the Startup Group. The total prize money reached 1 million yuan. In the end, the gold awards in the Professional Group and the Startup Group went to the CV3 desktop CNC designed by "GREEN MAKER STUDIO" and Cycling designed by "Lowercase," respectively, with prizes of 300,000 and 100,000 yuan.
