Grow one or two pots at home

For minor ailments and pains

You can find natural remedies right at home!

Honeysuckle

Honeysuckle is cold in nature, clears heat and detoxifies, and has a fragrant aroma. It has a significant therapeutic effect on conditions such as sore throat caused by internal heat. Generally, the flowers are used as medicine. After picking, the flowers are dried in the sun for storage, and can be taken out and brewed in water whenever needed.

Planting method

1. You can buy ready-made ones at the flower market, or take a small branch, remove the bottom 4 leaves and use it for cuttings;

2. After filling the pot with soil, insert the honeysuckle to a depth of 2 cm;

3. Insert a bamboo stick next to the honeysuckle to help it climb;

4. Water thoroughly and keep the soil moist;

5. Then cover with a plastic bag, covering the plant, and secure it with a rubber band, letting the honeysuckle root in a sealed environment (greenhouse). After 2-3 weeks, uncover the plastic bag and you will find the soil slightly dry and the roots have gripped the soil;

6. Then you can transfer the honeysuckle to a larger pot, and as long as the soil is kept moist, it will grow smoothly.

Potted honeysuckle is a distinctive plant with relatively high light requirements. When cultivating it at home, try to place it in an environment with plenty of sunlight.

Processing method

Harvest every year in May-June. It is best to pick in the morning before the sun comes up, while the fragrance is strong and the nutritional benefits of honeysuckle have not been lost (buds about to bloom are better than fully opened flowers).

Then spread all the picked flowers out in the sun. After drying for 3 days, make sure the honeysuckle is completely dry, then put it into a dry and clean bottle for storage. When you need to reduce internal heat, you can take out a few and brew them.

Honeysuckle is suitable for people with a balanced constitution or internal heat. People with weak and cold spleen and stomach (such as frequent abdominal pain, diarrhea, cold abdomen, cold hands and feet) should not brew honeysuckle in water to drink.

Lavender

Lavender essential oil made from lavender can calm and soothe the nerves, and has a very good effect on improving sleep quality. Homegrown lavender can be dried and made into sachets to place in wardrobes to repel insects and fight bacteria, and pillows made from it help with sleep.

Planting method

1. You can propagate by cuttings or sow seeds (generally sold at flower markets). If sowing seeds, first soak the soil thoroughly, then scatter the seeds, and cover with a thin layer of fine soil.

2. For cuttings using non-flowering branches, simply remove the lower leaves and cut the stem at a slant at the cut end.

3. Water the soil thoroughly and keep it moist. Insert after 2 hours. Insert in April, and sprouts will appear in about 2-3 weeks.

Processing method

1. After harvesting lavender, which blooms every year in June, tie it into bundles and hang them upside down to dry;

2. After 2-4 weeks, if the flowers fall off at a light touch, it means they are completely dry. At this point, you can wear gloves and pat the flowers off;

3. After the flowers are knocked off, store them in a dry jar. They can be used to make sachets, pillow stuffing, herbal tea, and cooking seasonings~

Lavender is pungent in taste and cool in nature, and has the effect of lowering blood pressure, so people with low blood pressure should use it with caution. People with qi stagnation constitution, special constitution, yang deficiency constitution, and blood stasis constitution are not suited to lavender and should eat it sparingly or not at all. Lavender powder is an emmenagogue, and women in early pregnancy should avoid using it.

Chamomile

Like most chrysanthemum teas, dried chamomile paired with honey can reduce internal heat and improve eyesight. In addition, it has a good soothing effect on muscle tension, eye fatigue, poor mood, and indigestion. As a main ingredient in skincare products, it can improve sensitive skin.

Planting method

Generally propagated by seed, and the sowing time is every year in autumn (a bit like wheat). Just ensure sufficient sunlight. Because of its relatively strong cold tolerance, it can also be grown in the north~

7-10 days after sowing is the germination time, and the temperature should be 15-18 degrees Celsius, so creating a greenhouse environment is relatively important. In March-May of the following year, when the flowering period arrives, it can be picked.

Processing method

After rinsing the picked chamomile clean, dry it in the sun, which takes about 3-5 days. Dried chamomile paired with lavender to drink helps with sleep;

Or use the brewed chamomile water to make cakes or knead dough - very delicious~

Mint

Eating it in dishes or raw can freshen breath and treat oral diseases. Its refreshing aroma can soothe the nerves and calm people down.

  Planting method

1. Take a small section and remove the lower leaves;

2. Insert it into water and let it root;

3. After 2-3 weeks, transplant it into a flower pot.

Mint has a refreshing effect on the mind, so it should not be placed in the bedroom at night.

Processing method

It can be added directly when making cold drinks, cold dishes, or cold noodles.

Sage

It can be used as aromatherapy and can calm the nerves. When feeling upset or under great pressure or tension, it has the effect of easing emotions.

Planting method

Sow seeds. The soil needs good drainage, loose, and not hard-packed. After scattering the seeds, cover with fine soil and water a little (once a week).

Processing method

At the beginning, cut only one leaf at a time for use. This is good for the growth of sage.

After the leaves of a mature sage plant become lush, pull out the whole plant and dry it in the sun; it can be used to make incense.

1. Tie up the mature sage plant with hemp rope;

2. Pour sand into a bowl, insert the sage, and make it stand upright;

3. Light the sage with a match, then blow out the flame, and the sage will smolder like incense;

4. If you do not want it to continue smoldering, you can extinguish it with water and let it dry.
