Reasons Why Geraniums Don't Bloom and How to Fix Them

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
There are several reasons why geraniums don't bloom. If it's due to insufficient light, move them to a bright spot and let them get some sun at the right times. If it's caused by improper watering and waterlogged potting soil, control the water promptly to avoid root rot. If it's due to over-fertilizing, reduce feeding or water the soil to dilute the fertilizer; you can apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer in early spring and early autumn.

1. Insufficient Light

Geraniums may fail to bloom because of insufficient light. They need plenty of light to flower. If flower buds or growth points are shaded by leaves and can't get light, they also won't bloom. Move them to a bright spot and let them get some sun at the right times.

2. Improper Watering

If overwatering causes water to pool in the potting soil and the plant doesn't bloom, control the water promptly. Long-term waterlogging can also cause yellowing leaves, leggy growth, and even root rot. The soil shouldn't be too dry either; keep it moist.

3. Over-Fertilizing

If you over-fertilize geraniums, especially with nitrogen fertilizer, it can cause them not to bloom or to produce few, poor-quality flowers. But under-fertilizing can also affect blooming. Reduce feeding or dilute the fertilizer with water; you can apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer in early spring and early autumn.
