What should you do when clivia leaves lose their gloss?

If you want to grow clivia well, it is a rather time-consuming task. Regarding clivia leaves losing their gloss, Xiaowei will teach you a few methods.

The most important one first: fertilizing. Clivia with sufficient fertilizer grows leaves with clear veining, upright leaves and a glossy shine. How should you fertilize to achieve this effect? Fertilizing clivia is done in stages; there is no single formula that works for everything, that is impossible. Start counting from after the flowering period. After the flowers fade, if you are not keeping clivia seeds, first give the clivia a multi-element fertilizer plus potassium fertilizer to replenish the nutrients consumed by flowering. Everyone knows that flowering and fruiting consume the most nutrients. If you do not replenish after the flowers fade, or if the nutrient content in the soil is too low, the leaves will become smaller, thinner and softer. Afterwards, because the weather gets hotter, clivia begins to grow more slowly, and at this time you do not need to add heavy fertilizer; adding a liquid fertilizer once a month is enough.

When autumn comes and the weather starts to turn cool, first apply a balanced nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. This promotes the growth of the clivia. When the clivia grows well, the leaves will naturally grow better. With a good foundation laid, and with proper care later on, the leaves are sure to be good.

Everyone knows that phosphorus fertilizer promotes flower bud differentiation and is also commonly used when clivia blooms. You may not know much about potassium fertilizer: potassium fertilizer promotes root development and growth, and improves fruit quality. Poor clivia leaves may stem from a problem with absorption, which is why after the flowers fade it is recommended to apply a potassium fertilizer once to nourish the roots. Before winter arrives, you must apply an organic fertilizer once; this is also an indispensable step. Although organic fertilizer has a relatively low nutrient content, it is more comprehensive, which other fertilizers cannot compare with. Clivia given organic fertilizer every year shows a clear improvement in leaf quality and gloss.

Clivia leaves are relatively broad, so you need to wipe the dust off them often. Many friends wipe them with beer, saying this makes them look more oily and glossy. In fact, this claim is wrong, because when grown indoors, ventilation is relatively poor. If you wipe with water, it evaporates relatively slowly, and if water marks stay on the leaves for a long time, they will make the leaves turn yellow. If you wipe with beer, it evaporates relatively easily.

Light: clivia is a short-day plant, and the best daily light is between 3-6 hours. If the light period is too long, the leaf edges will turn yellow, and the leaf thickness will become thinner because of water evaporation, making the leaves very unattractive.
