Small plastic bags are hugely useful for growing flowers: rooting cuttings, keeping warm, and eliminating pests, all while being eco-friendly and saving money

When you go to the supermarket and buy things, what you have the most of at home is probably plastic bags. Those with good habits collect these plastic bags for a second use; some of the thinner ones, used for buying vegetables and such, you don't really want to reuse. Then you can use them for growing flowers! Just perfect! Don't underestimate a small plastic bag - it can be hugely useful!
1. Keeping warm
Most potted flowers like to grow in a warm environment. The temperature now is fine, but in October and November, that is, before the heating comes on, the temperature at home is still on the low side. That's when plastic bags come in handy! Use plastic bags of all sizes, slip them over the flower pots, and poke a few tiny holes around them.
Also, if you want to root cuttings in winter but the temperature isn't high enough, then use a plastic bag to make up for it.
2. Keeping moist
Plants that have just been rooted from cuttings, or just sown, need a certain humidity to grow. Spray some water inside the flower pot, put a plastic bag over the pot, and it does a great job of keeping in moisture.
3. Killing pests
Did you know mosquito coils can kill pests? If your home gets aphids, or fungus gnats, mosquito coils are the best pest-killing remedy. Most people light a mosquito coil next to the flower pot, but this isn't very effective. Put the mosquito coil and the flower together inside a plastic bag for about 10-20 minutes, not too long, and basically all the pests in the pot will be killed.
