Lately, I do not know whether it is because the weather is too hot or something else, but the pothos at home is droopy and has no energy at all, and yellow leaves appear every day. Usually, as soon as I see a yellow leaf, I pull it off, and it feels like the pothos has recently gone bald and is no longer pretty. Does your pothos show this too?

If your pothos frequently develops yellow leaves, these 3 causes need your attention!

1. Yellow leaves caused by lighting

Pothos is a shade-loving plant, and in normal care it should mainly be kept in a semi-shaded, indirect-light environment, but in this season it absolutely must not be exposed to direct strong light. Maybe you put the pothos on the balcony for only half a day, and it may already be so wilted it cannot hold up. Long-term exposure to strong light not only keeps it from growing well, but may also make it thinner and weaker with more yellow leaves.

Of course, being in a dark spot for a long time will also cause yellow leaves. Apart from summer, in the other seasons it should still get more sunlight, and in winter full-sun care is also fine.

2. Yellow leaves caused by over-fertilizing

Summer is exactly the season when pothos grows quickly. Like me, many flower lovers also add some fertilizer to pothos at this time, but little do they know that when fertilizing is too frequent and too much, pothos shows thick but lusterless leaves, and the leaves turn yellow and drop. At this point, you can water more to dilute the fertilizer concentration and pause fertilizing.

Of course, if you want pothos to grow better, you can apply some fertilizer with more nitrogen during its growing season. Applying a diluted, decomposed liquid fertilizer once a month is enough. Do not apply too much. Frequent light feeding can make it grow with green leaves and a sturdy form.

3. Yellow leaves caused by improper watering

Actually, the most common cause of yellow leaves is none other than improper watering. When watered too much, it easily causes root rot, making pothos show new leaves shrinking and not growing, while old leaves turn dull yellow, lose their luster and drop. But over-watering can also cause yellow leaves, mainly shown as the leaf edges of pothos drying up and scorching.

Of course, because summer temperatures are high and pothos grows vigorously, its water demand is greater, and it needs watering about once every 2-3 days. In autumn and winter, the amount of watering should be reduced, mainly depending on temperature. When room temperature is below 10 degrees, watering once a week is enough.

For pothos kept at home, you should also pay attention to more ventilation. If there is no disease, generally speaking, those 3 causes are enough to explain the problem of yellow leaves on pothos.
