Fellow orchid growers, haven't you all been in this situation before - your orchid has grown a new shoot, and you can't hold back your joy. Actually, when an orchid grows new shoots, more isn't always better. If you single-mindedly chase the orchid's sprouting rate, then the toothpick weak seedling phenomenon is very likely to appear, and the loss outweighs the gain.

When an orchid produces toothpick seedlings, it is generally due to these situations:

1. Living alone.

An orchid that "lives alone" is very hard to grow strong. This is because orchids rely on orchid fungi to absorb nutrients. For orchids living in groups, their orchid fungi will be more abundant, so the orchid grows well and its root system becomes strong. An orchid living alone will grow relatively weakly, and the new shoots grown from weak old plants are called "toothpick seedlings". They are in a half-dead state and are hard to rejuvenate.

2. Not dividing the plant in time.

When orchid seedlings grow to a certain extent and sprout buds, if the pot is also very crowded, toothpick seedlings easily form. This is because newly sprouted seedlings, if nutrients are insufficient, easily become weak small seedlings, and this type of seedling is called a toothpick seedling. Generally, keeping 3-4 plants in one pot is best: nutrients are sufficient, the plants are strong, and the buds that grow will be healthier and fuller.

The toothpick seedlings caused by these 2 situations are exactly the phenomenon we commonly see in daily life. When caring for orchids, besides paying special attention, you should also give them orchid-specific nutrient solution once a month. Weak seedlings with sufficient nutrients will absorb well, their root systems will become strong, and only then is it possible to rejuvenate the seedlings.

In summer the weather is too hot, so during care you should also cool it down slightly. You can use the soaking pot method or the method of spraying outside the pot, both of these are fine. Spraying water around the pot can have a cooling effect, and the orchid is less likely to be stifled and damaged.

When growing orchids, you also need to pay more attention to the orchid's growth habits and understand some basic common knowledge, so that you can grow orchids well.
