Every flower lover wants the plants they grow to bloom more, so quite a few flower lovers ask how to get a bougainvillea to bloom more. Below, the editor explains it.

Watering

Watering is very important. Although bougainvillea is drought-tolerant, that does not mean it likes drought, so generally you water once the potting soil feels dry. Unless you are using water control to force flowering, you should still pay attention to watering at ordinary times.

Fertilizing

In daily care, keep to the principle of light fertilizer applied frequently, appropriately increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, bury a little bone meal, and occasionally give a little diluted fermented organic fertilizer or bury a little of it; it depends on personal preference and there is no fixed method. Bougainvillea has much lower fertilizer requirements than roses, so it is not suited to heavy fertilizer; use light fertilizer and apply it often.

Light

There is no need to say much about light. To bloom more, good light is essential. In summer, let it bask in the sun as much as possible.

Temperature

The suitable growing temperature is 15-30°C. In summer, shade it appropriately or take measures such as spraying water and improving ventilation; in winter, maintain an ambient temperature no lower than 5°C.

Pinching

Another important part of getting more blooms is that pinching the branches must not stop. Cut overly long ones directly in half; for short ones with six or seven leaves, directly pinch off the terminal bud. My previous worry that pinching would mean no flowers to see because the tips bloom was wrong; short branches blooming is completely fine. Keep pinching and keep up with fertilizer and water, and the bougainvillea will keep growing side branches. Every side branch is a flowering branch, and in the end, when the bougainvillea really cannot hold back anymore, it will bloom on short branches.
