As for whether orchids can be repotted during the sprouting period, everyone has a different opinion on this question. In the view of the flower fanatic, if things have not reached the point where the plant will wither and die unless it is repotted, it is best not to repot, because every repotting will inevitably damage the root system, and once the roots are damaged, the growth of the sprouts will be affected. The best time for us to turn out and repot is the vigorous spring growing season, followed by autumn, and we must avoid doing it in midsummer and winter. So today the flower fanatic will share what to pay attention to when repotting orchids.

The first point is preparation before repotting. When repotting an orchid, you must manage water withholding; generally, stop watering for at least one week, so that the roots become soft due to the lack of water. This way, when repotting, the roots are not easily damaged, and it is also easier to take them out of the pot. Support the orchid plant with your hand, turn the pot upside down, and it can be taken out easily.

The second point is the handling of the root system. After taking the orchid out of the pot, use sterilized scissors to cut off the blackened, rotted, and shriveled roots. However, when pruning, be sure to protect the white crystal tips at the ends of the orchid roots; these are the growth points of the orchid root system, and if they are bruised, the plant's growth will be affected. After pruning the roots, it is best to soak them in carbendazim solution or potassium permanganate solution for disinfection for 10 minutes, then let them dry in the air before replanting.

The third point is the choice of planting medium. There is no fixed restriction on the planting medium, because everyone has a medium they are comfortable using. Here are a few references for you: you can use pure sphagnum moss, or orchid stone, bark, peanut shells, or orchid mud (that is, mountain soil rich in humus).

The fourth point is care after planting. After planting, the orchid should first be placed in a cool and well-ventilated location for care, and the potting soil must be thoroughly watered. After 10-15 days of sufficient recovery, it can be moved to a normal environment for care. Author: Flower Fanatic.
