How to divide anthurium (Anthurium andraeanum)? A step-by-step guide to the correct method
I. Timing of division
The timing of division can be divided into the time of division and the age for division.
If judged by time, spring and autumn are the most suitable, because the temperature is just right at these times and the weather is not hot; while in summer and winter the temperature is too high and too low. But if dividing in a greenhouse, it can be done all year round.
If judged by age, it can generally be done when the daughter plant has 4 to 5 leaves, so that it can grow better. If the daughter plant is too small, its growth rate will slow down; if the daughter plant is too large, it will affect the growth of the mother plant.
II. Preparations before division
Before starting, choose the potting soil. Since it likes breathable soil, you can use a mix of peat and perlite, and then disinfect the soil; in addition, you also need to choose the mother plant, because small ones survive more easily than large ones and are more likely to grow side branches, so you can choose a small one as the mother plant.
III. Carrying out the division
1. First select the mother plant, then separate the daughter plants from the mother plant by hand at the appropriate position.
2. Be careful when dividing so as not to damage the mother plant and the daughter plants. If you cannot pull them apart by hand, you can use a knife; just cut gently at the appropriate position and they can be separated.
3. After separating them, put the daughter plants into a disinfection container to disinfect, and make sure the roots are completely submerged in the disinfectant solution.
4. After disinfection, take out the daughter plants and plant them. Remember that the number planted in each pot should not be too many; a moderate amount is enough. Finally, take good care of them, and before long they will grow leaves and branches.
