How to water Christmas cactus in summer? These key points you need to know

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
In summer, Christmas cactus enters dormancy and must not be watered too much. You can mist the leaves frequently, or sprinkle more water around the pot to lower the temperature and raise air humidity. Alternatively, you can use the sitting-pot method by placing the pot in a basin of water, which also helps it get through summer safely. Usually, before watering, you can judge whether it lacks water by lifting the pot or tapping the pot.

1. Mist more often

Although you cannot water much in summer, because the temperature is high and water evaporates quickly, we should often mist its leaves and the area around the pot. This can maintain higher air humidity for a long time and also help lower the temperature. When misting, only 2 to 3 times a day is enough. After misting, place it in a well-ventilated spot to grow, which will prevent pests and diseases.

2. Sitting-pot method

When watering it, we can use the sitting-pot method. At this time, the water should not be too much. Then place the flower pot in the sitting basin, only letting the water cover one quarter of the pot. This will not make the soil too dry, nor will it make the soil too wet. This helps it get through summer smoothly.

3. Check whether it lacks water

Many people do not know how to determine in summer whether it lacks water. In fact, we can judge by lifting the pot or tapping the pot. For example, when using the lifting method, if you find the pot has become noticeably lighter, then it lacks water, and you should water it promptly. In addition, you can also judge based on the soil condition, such as checking whether the soil surface has turned white, then finding a chopstick and inserting it into the soil to a depth of 2 to 3 cm. After that, you can water according to how moist the chopstick is.
