Lucky bamboo carries the meaning of "flowers blooming bring wealth and honor, bamboo heralds peace," and keeping a pot of it can bring good luck to everyone. It can also be planted in groups to make a "fortune-turning bamboo," very suitable for placing a pot in a hall, a company, or a shop. Lucky bamboo is mostly grown in water. Some flower lovers' lucky bamboo turns yellower the longer they keep it. What can be done to make it green again?

Add a piece of charcoal

For lucky bamboo grown in water, you can put a small piece of wood charcoal in the vase. Charcoal can absorb impurities in the water, keep the water clean, and reduce bacterial infection. It can also absorb excess nutrients and slowly release them, letting the lucky bamboo grow in a relatively clean and hygienic environment, reducing the chance of root rot.

Add a bit of general-purpose nutrient solution

After water-grown lucky bamboo has taken root, you can regularly add a bit of nutrient solution; a general-purpose nutrient solution will do. Some small green-bottle nutrient solutions that flower shop owners give away can even be diluted with water and used too. Generally use it once every half month. Do not add it during the high heat of summer or the cold of winter, to prevent root rot. Note that you should add it only after roots have grown; adding it before roots form is useless.

Add a small iron nail

Adding a small iron nail is a folk method used by many flower lovers, but it really does work quite well. You need to use a rusty iron nail, which will release a trace amount of iron ions. Although the effect is a bit slow, many flower lovers find that after using it, the leaves never turn yellow again.

Add a bit of ferrous sulfate

For water-grown lucky bamboo, you can regularly add a ferrous sulfate aqueous solution to the vase. Ferrous sulfate takes effect relatively quickly. You can make a 0.2% aqueous solution and add a few drops to the water each time you change it. You can also spray the leaf surfaces with the ferrous sulfate aqueous solution to keep the leaves emerald green.

Add a vitamin tablet

If a newly bought lucky bamboo does not grow roots, it is largely related to the temperature. Higher temperatures make roots grow faster, while in winter you just have to wait slowly. Flower lovers who have vitamin B at home can crush it, dilute it with water, and add a few drops to the vase to speed up the rooting of lucky bamboo. Normally you can also dilute a vitamin C tablet in water and add a bit when changing the water, which is even more helpful for keeping the leaves emerald green.
