Many gardening enthusiasts throw away all the old soil from their pots when repotting. Actually, some old soil can be reused.

Don't use the leftover old soil from repotting at home directly to plant new plants, because it will more or less carry some pathogens, and it can only be used after sterilization and disinfection.

First, in the yard where the sun can reach, lay down a layer of black plastic bags. Then spread the old soil from repotting on top of the plastic bags and let it bake in the sun.

Turn the soil regularly so it gets fully exposed to the sun. After about three to five days, it will basically have achieved the sterilization and disinfection effect.

If you have a flower bed or vegetable garden at home, you can appropriately add some mixed compost soil or manure, and then add some river sand to increase drainage, and then it can be used to grow plants.

If you want to use it for potted plants, you can add some peat soil, compost soil and perlite, and you can also add some river sand. This can increase the drainage of the potting soil and let the plants grow better.

If you don't want to use the sun-baking method for disinfection, you can also pour boiling water on it, or water it with a carbendazim solution, but these methods cannot completely avoid removing the pests and diseases inside.

Have you thrown away all the old soil at home? From now on, the leftover old soil can be treated and continue to be used.
