It's finally time to say goodbye to the grueling summer, and this is also a great time to tidy up your flowers' appearance. So, I quickly got to trimming the geraniums' "edges," so they'll bloom more than you could ever imagine.

Geraniums are naturally very strong at sprouting. Just think: a single branch can be rooted from a cutting, even a leaf can be rooted from a cutting, and pruning stimulates the growth of new buds in geraniums even more. You can see new buds sprouting in about 1 week.

Because each time new leaves grow, old leaves are phased out, and once the new leaves grow to a certain extent, they in turn become old leaves. To reduce leaf loss, we can apply fertilizer appropriately, and at the same time correspondingly prune away old leaves and old branches.

Just after summer, geraniums are slowly recovering their condition. At this time, do not use too much strongly stimulating fertilizer; instead use fully fermented organic fertilizer, rich and balanced in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, with various organic matter, minerals, amino acids, etc. added. It can slowly regulate the plant's internal environment, promote plant growth and flowering, and keep the plant robust.

While trimming the geraniums' "edges," you should also consider giving them proper pinching, so as to promote lateral bud differentiation and produce more flower buds. It can also prevent the plant from becoming leggy and failing to bloom.

Pinching method

Wait until the plant grows to about 10 cm, then you can remove the top of the geranium from below the top 2 leaves, keeping about 5-6 leaves. After pinching, several branches will grow. When the branches grow to about 8 cm, you can pinch again. After cycling like this about 3 times, you can slowly get more than 10 or so branches, and it won't be so hard to get a pot bursting with flowers.

Fertilizing after pruning

No matter what kind of flower it is, after pruning you should appropriately supplement the corresponding fertilizer, because lateral bud sprouting and flower bud differentiation consume relatively more nutrients. A good choice is to drip a few drops of organic ecological nutrient solution into the water when watering. It is fermented from sugarcane bagasse, rich and balanced in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, and can promote a strong plant, many flower buds, and vigorous flowering.

One pot becomes 10 pots

The thing that makes geranium growers happiest is that it can be propagated by branch cuttings, and the survival rate is very high. Do not throw away the branches cut during the plant's growing season, it's such a waste. A better way is to stick them into sandy loam soil, because well-drained, breathable soil makes rooting easier, then keep them in a ventilated, shady place for care. After rooting in 20 days, they can be cared for normally.
