It has very strict environmental requirements, so at present it is only grown on a small scale in trial plots.

I. Native growing areas

Mangosteen originated in Southeast Asia; for example, it is widely cultivated in Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines, and Thailand is the country where it is grown the most. Generally, a tree takes about 10 years from seed to bear fruit, and it also has very strict environmental requirements, so it is very precious.

II. Domestic growing areas

In fact, mangosteen is not abundantly produced in China, but it is grown there. It has also been cultivated and introduced in Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan, Taiwan, China and Yunnan. It has very strict requirements for environment and climate; for example, in Taiwan, China, it was introduced and trial-planted in the early 20th century, but because winter temperatures there are lower than in Southeast Asia, the climate and soil were unsuitable and the attempt was unsuccessful. At present there is no actual commercial cultivation, only small-scale trial planting in a few areas.
