In some TV shows about tombs, the red spider lily is mentioned, but in real life this flower actually exists. You may have even seen it, just without recognizing it. The red spider lily also has some alternative names - perhaps the name you know it by is one of its aliases? So what are its alternative names? Wusuan, red-flowered lycoris, manjusaka, and so on. The red spider lily is a herbaceous flower of the Amaryllidaceae family, originally growing in China and Japan, and later gradually introduced and cultivated in various places. None of that is the main point. What we are talking about today is the flower colors of the red spider lily and the meanings they carry.

I. What flower colors are there and what do they mean

The common flower colors of the red spider lily are blood red and snow white. Both colors of the red spider lily have various alternative names, and they are also very similar: the white one is mandarava, and the red one is manjusaka; both colors of the red spider lily together represent death. In legend, the red spider lily is the path to eternal life, the beginning of the extinction of this life. The distant shore is calling to you, a road of no return leading to hell.

The white red spider lily likewise represents death, but its biggest difference from the red one is that it leads to the world of ultimate bliss, ending the longings of this life and the end of all attachments. It is a signal sent from heaven. One is hell, one is heaven. Although they lean toward different representations, what they both carry is the symbol of death - but legends are only legends.

II. When is the blooming period

Every year, July is the season when the red spider lily blooms, and its blooming period can last until September. It is said that the red spider lily blooms very punctually, and this is also the reason for its name.

The main uses of the red spider lily are in landscaping, flowerbed materials, cut flower arrangements, and so on. Growing it at home is not impossible either, but sometimes it fails to bloom. Why is that?

1. The red spider lily is a bulbous flower, so if the pot used for growing it is too small, the growth of its bulb is restricted, and naturally it cannot grow normally. Because of the limited space, the bulb grows deformed and this affects the blooming of the flowers. The best solution is to dig the bulb out of the pot in October, divide it, and change to a pot with a larger diameter. Be careful during the digging process so as not to damage the bulb of the red spider lily.

2. The red spider lily has requirements for the soil it grows in. Over a long period of care, the soil gradually becomes alkaline and also develops clumping, which naturally affects the breathing of the bulb. So in order to ensure the normal growth of the red spider lily, you can add some acidic conditioner when watering daily, keeping the soil in a slightly acidic state, but the frequency of watering should not be too high.
