Introduction

Green potted plants are essential decorative elements for home life. Keeping some flowers and plants at home brings many benefits, as they can both beautify the living space and delight the mood. "Flower Sound Potted Plant Diary, Issue 1246" introduces you to one of the most beautiful cacti.

Today's Featured Plant

Cactus-family plants have unusual appearances and are easy to care for, making them popular with many plant enthusiasts. Placed on a desk or in a room, they add a special charm. The one introduced today is called "Wanchongshan" (Cereus repandus 'Florida'), hailed as the most beautiful cactus and known as the "male god" of the cactus world.

Wanchongshan

Wanchongshan is a perennial succulent plant in the Cactaceae family, genus Cereus, native to Mexico. It closely resembles the "shanyingquan" (Cereus repandus f. monstrose), belonging to the same family and genus, and the two are often confused. Personally, I think Wanchongshan is more beautiful than shanyingquan, as its surface lacks that annoying thorny membrane.

One Mountain Higher Than Another

Wanchongshan has a beautiful plant shape, tall and upright. The plant looks like a series of small mountains, with each branch growing upward like an endless chain of peaks, one mountain higher than another. It stays lush and green all year round, possessing a masculine beauty, hence its name, and its ornamental value is extremely high.

Easy to Cultivate

Wanchongshan can grow to over two meters tall in its place of origin. In the South China region of southern China, it can be grown outdoors, while in other places it is mostly grown as a potted ornamental. It is very easy to cultivate, not particular about soil, tolerant of poor soil, and has low requirements for fertilizer and water. With sufficient light, it will be in great condition, and it is fine not to water it for ten days to eight days. It is very easy to grow.

Excellent Bonsai Material

Wanchongshan can be propagated by cuttings. First, place the branches in a cool place to air-dry for 1 to 2 days until the wounds dry, then insert them into the soil. At this time, there is no need to water; simply press the soil firm. Roots and shoots will appear in about 20 days, with a very high survival rate, making it suitable for beginners to handle.

Wanchongshan itself has a beautiful plant shape and is already very attractive without pruning. Paired with an antique and elegant flower pot, it can be shaped into a bonsai tree. It is a rare excellent potted plant and excellent bonsai material.
