When it comes to homemade organic fertilizer, fermenting rice water is the simplest method everyone has tried. But fermented rice water always gives off a bad smell, and the odor is strong when watering flowers too, especially now that the weather is hot. Outdoors it is fine, but indoors, the smell from fermentation is really a bit unbearable.

Don't worry, today there are 2 simple tricks that can easily remove the stench of organic fertilizer. Very simple, worth a try.

1. Rice vinegar, baijiu

For potted flowers on a balcony, the fertilizer we compost is generally placed in a container for sealed fermentation. Pour in rice vinegar and baijiu at the same time, and the stench can also be reduced to a minimum. When fertilizing, dilute it with water before use, and basically no smell can be detected.

2. Orange peel, pomelo peel

(1) During the fermentation of rice water, waves of stench are given off. At this time, you can collect more orange peel, pomelo peel, etc., chop them up and put them into the fertilizer to ferment together. The stench will slowly be reduced to a minimum, and there will even be a slight fresh citrus scent.

(2) When potting flowers or changing the soil, burying an appropriate amount of orange peel can also ease the stench of the fermented decomposed fertilizer, and at the same time can also eliminate pests in the potting soil, achieving multiple benefits at once.

However, fermenting rice water in summer still smells too strong. It is recommended to make homemade organic fertilizer again when the weather turns cool in autumn.
