Is Gesang flower the same as Cosmos? Controversy over growing environment makes it hard to tell them apart
The name Gesang flower may not be very familiar to most of us. Some of us may have heard it, but cannot recall where exactly we heard it. In fact, the Gesang flower is inextricably linked to Tibet. In the Tibetan language, "Gesang" means beautiful, so the Gesang flower is a byword for beauty. Therefore, in the eyes of Tibetans, this Gesang flower is a symbol of beauty. If you see a Gesang flower, it means you are very lucky. However, Tibetans generally take good care of Gesang flowers, so few people pick them and wear them in their hair, because they believe that simply lying on the ground and admiring the beauty of the Gesang flower allows them to receive a day's good luck, without having to forcibly pick it.
However, what kind of flower the Gesang flower actually is has always been a matter of debate. First of all, the languages of Tibet are different from our Han culture, so although many experts study Tibetan, they still do not understand which flower the Gesang flower refers to. Moreover, some ancient Tibetan texts are incomplete; even if they are fairly detailed, contradictions may appear. That is, one ancient text says the Gesang flower is Cosmos, while another ancient text says the Gesang flower is some other wildflower or wild grass. So it cannot be determined what the Gesang flower actually refers to.
1. In fact, most experts agree that the Gesang flower is Cosmos, mainly based on local descriptions of the Gesang flower. First, its shape is relatively small and delicate, and the Gesang flower is generally rose red with only one layer of petals and yellow stamens. Taken together, this may refer to the rose-red Cosmos.
Besides Cosmos, some people also believe that the Gesang flower actually refers simply to a kind of wildflower widely distributed in the Tibet region. Because wildflowers do not have regular growth habits, few people have recorded this wildflower, and no one has included it in Baidu Baike. Therefore, the information we can obtain about this wildflower is very limited. So if we want to study the Gesang flower, we should of course choose the Cosmos, which we currently know about.
2. Where does the Gesang flower generally grow? As far as I know, the Gesang flower blends into the Tibetan grasslands. They grow in dense grass, can enjoy plenty of sunlight every day, and can fully receive rainwater. Moreover, because Tibet has a vast territory and a sparse population, and because not many people choose to travel to Tibet, many people come because of its fame, but basically some people who go to Tibet experience some physical discomfort.
Therefore, the number of visitors is certainly not particularly large, which has led to very good environmental protection in Tibet. Moreover, the locals in Tibet love this land very much and cannot bear to litter; they attach great importance to maintaining the plateau. Therefore, in such an environment, the Gesang flowers that grow there actually have very superior natural conditions.
3. If we go to Tibet to admire the Gesang flower fields, what should we pay attention to? Because the Gesang flower holds a very important place in the hearts of Tibetans, even if we think the Gesang flower is beautiful, we must not pick it without permission.
