Pothos Almost Died, Thrown into a Stinky Ditch, Then Went Wild and Grew Everywhere in Half a Month While Neighbors Lined Up to Grab Some

What Huahua hears complained about most every day is pothos. Many plant lovers just throw it away when they can't grow it well, and then want to buy it again after tossing it... Today I saw pothos thrown away by a plant lover, and it actually grew into a whole patch in a stinky ditch. It really makes you not know whether to laugh or cry!
Plant lover @Impossible to work discovered that in a ditch near home, there was actually a big patch of golden pothos (Epipremnum aureum)!
If Huahua remembers correctly, golden pothos is even twice the price of common pothos. Someone must have thrown it by the ditch, and unexpectedly it still managed to grow into a whole patch, with leaves even bigger than those carefully tended!
Seeing this "treasure," how could anyone not be tempted? Hurry and dig up one plant and take it home to plant... Actually, pothos is super easy to keep alive. If you don't believe it, Huahua will demonstrate it again for you!
Even a Cut Vine Can Survive
With pothos's survival rate and growth speed, even spending 10 yuan to buy it feels expensive. If you want fast rooting, use water culture, and the difficulty of growing it is 0; but if you want it to grow vigorously, you still need soil culture, and just cut a branch.
1. There is a trick to cutting pothos branches: cut at a 45° angle
Cut pothos branches into small sections 5-8 cm long, and each section must have at least one growth node (shown in the red circle in the picture below). When cutting, it is best to use sharp scissors and cut at an angle of about 45°, so the rooting success rate is higher and rooting is faster!
For the trimmed pothos branches, it is best to soak them for 15-20 minutes in a carbendazim solution, or potassium permanganate solution, to sterilize them, because the weather is relatively hot now and bacteria breed easily. After sterilization, the survival rate is higher.
2. The Insertion Position Is Very Important
Let the sterilized pothos branches dry, and then you can insert them. For insertion, coconut coir soil or sandy soil both work; in short, it must be breathable. Insert vertically with the growth node exposed, and the pothos that grows will tend to climb; place it horizontally on the soil surface with the growth node facing up, and the pothos that grows will be neat and easy to fill the pot.
3. Care After Insertion
Place the inserted pothos branches in a ventilated place at home, avoid light, and spray water every day to keep them moist. In only 3-5 days, the growth nodes begin to sprout green buds. After budding, they can be placed in a bright place indoors, and soon the buds grow into leaves.
After about 2 weeks, when the pothos leaves are normal in size, they can be temporarily planted into flower pots. Be careful when digging them up, and you can transplant them with soil, without damaging the roots.
For pothos transplanted into a new pot, you can plant a circle around the pot, with each plant spaced more than 5 cm apart, so they do not block each other. After planting, water thoroughly; this is what is commonly called setting-root water. Finally, place it in a ventilated place, avoid direct sunlight, and after 4-5 days it can gradually get some sun.
Pothos Needs Fertilizer, and Its Leaves Grow Bigger Than a Pancake
Since pothos is so easy to grow, why is the pothos we grow still not as big as wild ones? The key is fertilizer. Common little things in our daily life can all be used as pothos fertilizer. See it early and know it early!
1. Water from a Fish Tank
Plant lovers who keep fish at home are really lucky. The fish tank water changed out is the best fertilizer water for growing pothos. Fish waste is natural organic fertilizer. After drinking it, pothos not only has oily green leaves, but can also climb like crazy!
2. Beer Water
Beer water is mainly a foliar fertilizer. After opening the can and letting it breathe, mix beer with water = 1:10, and wipe it on pothos leaves. It can promote pothos leaf growth and make it dense and full. Wiping with beer water about once every half month is already very effective. If the leaves grow too crowded, hurry and prune it a bit.
3. Iron Nail Water
When pothos lacks iron, its leaves become pale. Keep iron nail water at home: soak rusty iron nails in water, and water the pothos twice a month to ensure the leaves are dark green and shiny! If yours is water-cultured pothos, you can directly put the iron nails into the water-culture bottle.
A Few Points to Note When Growing Pothos
1. Spray Water Often to Keep It Moist
Pothos is very afraid of dry air. It is best to spray its leaves often to keep the surrounding air moist, so the leaves will grow large and thick.
2. Avoid Harsh Sun Exposure
Once the light is strong, pothos is easily sunburned, and after sunburn it cannot recover. So when the light is strong, it is best to put it back indoors. Before 11 a.m. it can get some appropriate sun, and appropriate sunlight is also good for pothos growth.
3. Prune Regularly
Once pothos starts growing, it grows like crazy, and the leaves cover each other. Lack of airflow also affects growth. If you see pothos growing aggressively, you can prune it appropriately. Turning 1 pot into many pots may not be a bad thing.
