People often say that good is rewarded with good. I could never really feel the truth of that saying before, and thought it was just a way to encourage people to do good deeds, until one time I did a small thing within my power, and it unexpectedly brought me a surprise. It turns out that doing good really does accumulate blessings for yourself. In the days to come I will still stand up for what is right, not for a reward, but simply because doing good gives me a strong sense of achievement and makes me feel that my life has more value.

I am just an ordinary company employee with an unremarkable career, but I have always been optimistic and full of hope. I believe that as long as I do the work in front of me well, over time my career will still develop and improve, so I cherish my small position and never cut corners on anything, always striving to do my best. One day I finished work a little late, and since I was hungry I went to a nearby convenience store to buy snacks. When I got to the checkout, I happened to see an auntie in front of me getting into an argument with the shopkeeper.

I listened carefully and understood what had happened. The auntie said the fifty-yuan note the shopkeeper had given her as change was fake, but the shopkeeper said it was real, and his attitude was very poor and extremely impatient, saying the auntie was dim-sighted and making a scene over nothing. So I walked over and asked the auntie if I could take a look at the note, and she handed it to me. After looking at her note, I took a fifty-yuan note out of my wallet, and when I compared them they were indeed different. The note the clerk had given as change really was not genuine. I told the shopkeeper to take a look herself, that this note and a real one were far too different, but the shopkeeper still insisted the note was real. Seeing that the shopkeeper really was being unreasonable, I said to her, since you say it is real, then I will spend this note right now in your shop buying something. The shopkeeper was immediately speechless and gave the auntie a real note instead. After we walked out of the supermarket, the auntie told me she was so grateful to me today and said I was truly a good young man who is happy to help others. I told the auntie that it was a small thing that cost me nothing and she should not worry about it, and then I turned and left.

The next day when I went to the company, I was astonished to see this same auntie in the company lobby. I asked her what business she had at our company. The auntie told me she had come to see her son. After a while our boss walked over, and I was extremely surprised. When the auntie learned that I worked at her son's company, she told the boss what had happened the day before. After the boss learned about it he was very grateful to me and looked at me differently. The next day he called me into his office and said he was giving me a promotion and a raise.

This really was such a coincidence. I never expected that a casual good deed of mine would bring me such a big surprise. It really does live up to the saying that good is rewarded with good. So people should still do more good deeds; nothing you do is ever wasted, and sooner or later there will be a good return.
