Heading out to sea before dawn to sow seeds, enduring the freezing seawater and sitting for half a day just for this ingredient
Starting work before dawn, sitting for a good half day, enduring the freezing seawater, all just to sow this ingredient
In daily life, we often eat kelp, but once the farming season arrives, the workers who cultivate kelp are at their busiest. In order to harvest more kelp, they have no choice but to endure the battering of the seawater and fend off the bitter cold, and every day they must put tremendous effort into sowing the seedlings on the ropes. It is fair to say they work extremely hard.
Many of the male workers are responsible for gathering from the sea, then transporting these kelp seedlings back to their company. Others are responsible for soaking the plastic ropes used to tie up the kelp in seawater, and still others separately inspect the kelp. The quality checks, one could say, give everyone a different responsibility, and each step and each procedure proceeds in an orderly way.
Among them, many of the women do only the work of attaching the seedlings. Of course, this work looks very easy, but it is extremely hard, because once you sit down there, you have to stay motionless for several hours, and at the time it is also bitterly cold. Starting work before dawn, sitting for a good half day, enduring the freezing seawater, many women's feet ache from the cold, yet the value they create is extremely high.
And on the wall of every workroom hangs a small black board, and on this board is drawn the daily workload of these women. Basically, if their hands are quick, for each jin they can thread nearly 300-odd stalks of five-meter wuyuchang seedlings, and following along, each has around 40-odd kelp seedlings on it, so in a day they can earn over 300 yuan. But if their hands are always slow, then each day they will only thread nearly 150-odd kelp seedlings.
So the kelp we eat in our daily lives only makes it to our dining tables through the hard work of these workers. Likewise, cherishing food and cherishing everything we have now, that is what matters most!
