In the process of growing succulents, if you are not careful with ventilation, water, light and other factors, it is easy to breed pathogens, and then black rot, sooty mold, and black spot disease come rushing in together, and it is too late to even cry, so prevention and treatment must go hand in hand.
I discovered succulents in 2011, and from then on there was no stopping, and it even changed my life.
From a balcony grower, to a rooftop grower, and finally I became a greenhouse owner.
7 years, walking all the way here stepping over countless succulent corpses, my understanding of succulent fertilizers and pesticides now, although I dare not say it is professional, is at least vocational.
Without further ado, I will address everyone's doubts from several aspects: pests, diseases, bird damage, fertilizing, soil pH, plant hormones, and so on, so we can all exchange and learn together.
Plant diseases (of course including succulent plants) are generally divided into two categories: fungal diseases and bacterial diseases.
1 . Fungal diseasesFungal diseases (key point)
The vast majority of plant diseases (root rot, black rot, sooty mold, dry scab, black spot) are fungal diseases.
2 . Bacterial diseasesBacterial diseases:
For this situation there are only two treatment drugs: agricultural streptomycin and zhongshengmycin. The former is an antibiotic, and starting next year the state will ban its production; the latter's mechanism of action is unclear, but after greenhouse practice its effect is certain, and it is the replacement for bacterial diseases in the future.
3 . Introduction to disease types① Black rot (root rot):
The specific treatment steps are:
1. Thoroughly remove the rotten tissue.
2. Use a strong fungicide (those who can, go to the local pesticide shop to buy new strong fungicides such as hymexazol and peracetic acid) to disinfect the healthy part - kill fungi if present, prevent if not.
3. Dry the wound and wait for rooting. The above 1, 2, 3 are all for early-stage black rot; for late-stage black rot (where the vascular tissue of the succulent stem has all been contaminated and turned black) you can basically give up treatment.
② Sooty mold:
This disease mostly will not directly kill the succulent, but it seriously affects appearance, and "once you get gray nail fungus, one infects two" - what to do?
Difenoconazole is effective; so-called effective means it can kill the sooty mold pathogen, causing the sooty symptoms to stop developing and stop spreading, but the sooty mold already formed will not disappear on its own; after cure you can clean it off with a brush (do not brush before cure, as it will cause the sooty mold pathogen to drift and infect each other).
③ Dry scab, black spot:

Consequences:
④ Bacterial diseases:
4 . Indications and characteristics of fungal fungicidesFungicides are divided into systemic and contact types.
Systemic means it can be absorbed into the body; to put it plainly, if you apply the medicine on your body, your arms and legs all have the medicine. Contact type is different: if you apply the medicine on your body, only the part of the body where the medicine was applied has the medicinal effect.
① Carbendazim (systemic type) (a bit less toxic than low toxicity, but still toxic):
However, even for the same carbendazim, the grades vary greatly. First, the content is divided into 30%, 50%, 80%, which means 100 grams of 30% carbendazim actually contains only 30 grams of the active ingredient carbendazim.
So carbendazim with higher content naturally has better effect, and high-purity carbendazim cannot be produced by manufacturers whose technical strength is insufficient, so high purity is a sign of high-quality carbendazim.
Recommended uses:
② Thiophanate-methyl (systemic type) (toxicity same as carbendazim):
Why? You can understand it as: after carbendazim dissolves in water, it first generates thiophanate-methyl, and then takes effect; in fact that is exactly what happens. So this product and carbendazim cannot be used alternately, because you are essentially using the same medicine.
③ Difenoconazole (low toxicity):
。
④ Hymexazol:
⑤ Wound healing ointment, wound healing powder:
⑥ Finally I want to talk about the famous Hua Shen (Flower Guardian)
Later I grew succulents in a greenhouse, gained some understanding of medicines, and found that the color and smell of Hua Shen are very similar to abamectin (an insecticide) diluted 100 times.
First, let's not talk about whether this is just my wild guess, but I always feel that what the Hua Shen box says - kills insects, kills fungi, and acts as fertilizer - sounds no matter how you hear it like the miracle cure-all pills shown on TV...
