Indoor living spaces are very limited, and when you want to grow plants, the biggest difficulty you encounter is the lack of a suitable environment; most plants need light to survive.

If you want to grow plants in a dim spot at home, the most common succulents and flowering plants are not suitable; you should choose the shade-loving plants below.

1. Spider plant

In fact, spider plants come in different varieties: there is the green-leaf spider plant with emerald green leaves, the golden-edge spider plant with golden edges along the leaf margins, and the golden-heart spider plant with golden stripes down the center of the leaves.

Caring for spider plants is very simple; it can adapt to low-light indoor environments, and then just be careful to water thoroughly once the potting soil has completely dried out.

2. Snake plant

If you want to grow one or two plants in a dark bedroom environment, the snake plant is a good choice; it has a sculptural shape that can bring a bit of vitality to the space, it can thrive in a bright spot, is fairly shade-tolerant, has very low water needs, and does not need frequent care. Grown in the bedroom, it also releases oxygen at night and can do a good job of improving indoor air quality.

3. ZZ plant

The ZZ plant is a very drought-tolerant and shade-tolerant plant that can endure low light and completely dry conditions; even going one or two months without watering is fine. It suits people who travel often or frequently forget to water their plants. It can stay evergreen all year round. When growing it, use loose, well-draining soil and a pot, avoid frequent watering, and keep the minimum winter care temperature above 5°C.

4. Lucky bamboo

Lucky bamboo is suitable for growing as an indoor water-cultured potted plant; it is suited to a bright desktop, needs no frequent care, and when buying it, it is best to choose lucky bamboo that has already grown a lot of roots. You can add some pebbles or clay pellets to the container, and change the water promptly once it turns cloudy. Remove the lower leaves to prevent yellowing.

5. Peace lily

The peace lily is a green plant that is very good at purifying the air and can greatly improve indoor air quality, and it can produce beautiful, pure white flowers in an indoor environment.

Caring for a peace lily is relatively simple; even if the stems and leaves have all wilted, it will quickly recover to a healthy state after just one thorough watering. The growing spot can have appropriate indirect light, and direct sun exposure should be avoided; water thoroughly once the soil has dried out.
