Every succulent grower has this question: "Why are other people's succulents so plump and juicy, while mine, even though I follow the experts' methods and fertilize and water them, are still small and ugly?" Have you ever wondered if they've been hiding these things from you? Don't worry, today this lady is going to specifically talk about what they've been secretly adding to make their succulents grow plumper and plumper.

1. Eggshells

After eating eggs, never throw away the shells, they have such wonderful uses! This is something we all knew as children - after eating eggs, we'd personally place the shells on the surface of the flower pot. Now that we've grown up, we must not forget this, only now our knowledge is more comprehensive, and we won't directly put fresh eggshells on the potting soil as fertilizer.

The principle is mainly to utilize the abundant calcium in eggshells to be absorbed into the plant's cycle, thereby making the succulent's cell walls tougher and impenetrable, and also effectively preventing bacterial erosion.

This lady usually accumulates eggshells for two weeks, then the big project begins: clean them thoroughly, then sun-dry them for a week (be careful to handle gently, otherwise you'll lose quite a few during transport), and after they're dry, put them in a sealed bag and crush them into powder with a rolling pin, then simply place it on the soil.

2. Bones

Don't think it's strange - not only do puppies like bones, but succulents like them too! And our succulents aren't picky at all - chicken bones, fish bones, pork bones, etc., as long as you bring them, they'll accept them all. That's because bones are rich in trace elements like calcium and phosphorus. People often say the most nutritious thing is soup, and most of the soup's nutrition comes from the bones.

So how do you prepare and use them? This lady suggests deboning meat that hasn't been marinated with seasonings, that way there's no salt at all. Although you can also wash the bones, it's uncertain whether the salt will be fully washed off. Then boil them in clean water, wash them clean, sun-dry them for a few days, and after they're dry, crush them.

At this point a problem arises - some bones can't be crushed. No matter, you can use them as a bottom layer. This lady generally uses bone powder as a medium, mixing it evenly with other succulent soil. Over time, with watering and sunlight, the trace elements will gradually decompose and release nutrients, which are then transmitted through the succulent's roots to all parts of its body. If you keep this up, your succulents will start worrying about weight loss!

3. Milk powder or milk

Although we know milk can be used as fertilizer, it absolutely and definitely must be fermented. Fresh milk cannot be used directly as fertilizer. Succulents aren't afraid of milk spoiling - generally after it spoils, add water to dilute it, ferment for a while, and make sure to add plenty of water to dilute it thoroughly.

This lady emphasizes this so much mainly because milk will "burn" the roots during fermentation, and if you overlook one detail, you'll lose more than you gain. Milk powder works the same way as milk, and the rich calcium in milk powder is also quite beneficial for succulents. If you're worried you can't get the ratio right, then just use liquid fertilizer specially made for succulents, dilute it 500 times, apply once every 10-15 days, water directly at the roots, and your succulents will grow plump.

Finally, things like rice water, vegetable cooking water, and banana peels all have great uses. Remember to ferment rice water, don't add seasonings to vegetable cooking water, etc. However, everyone must absolutely remember not to use them repeatedly. With so many methods available, just pick one - going overboard is as bad as not enough!
