Modern people's requirements for their living environment are no longer simply about being clean, tidy, and well-landscaped. Many people long for a courtyard or mountain life far from the mundane world and free from worldly strife. Today, Huahua would like to introduce a flower enthusiast living in the mountains - Bore Bolin!

Bolin had always wanted to build her dream "thatched cottage" in the mountains, a place where she could wake to the sound of birdsong and rest with the setting sun, admire flowers and grow vegetables, drink wine and enjoy tea. She named it "Dream Cottage"!

In 2013, she and her husband were visiting Nanshan Lake when, by chance, they came across a small villa on the mountain - this would later become "Dream Cottage." Because the original owner urgently needed funds, it was sold to Bolin and her husband at a low price.

What was delightful was that this three-story villa facing the lake came with a large garden of over 1,000 sq m. She finally had the chance to create the pastoral life she had envisioned!

Dream Cottage was built against the mountain, essentially on a hillside. The slope was covered in a wasteland of weeds and overgrown grass. The difficulty of transforming it can well be imagined!

Before the garden renovation:

After the garden renovation:

The entire property is divided into six functional levels: the first level is a large garden, the second level is the house and a small garden, the third level is a vegetable garden, the fourth level is a long corridor, the fifth level is an orchard, and the sixth level is a pavilion and sunroom. Layer upon layer, it is like an estate. Today Huahua will focus on introducing the renovation of the garden, vegetable garden, and orchard!

Garden renovation part one: Creating a beautiful entrance and an eastern rest area

Following the mountain path upward to the garden entrance, there is an arched iron gate at the entrance. The construction of the courtyard gate is very important. Bolin added an arched iron flower trellis on the gate pillar, preparing for roses and monthly roses to climb in the future~

On the right side of the courtyard gate, taking advantage of the slope, two three-dimensional fish ponds with a strong sense of layering were built, one above the other~

This fish pond is the soul and eyes of the entire garden. With water, the garden becomes lively and animated.

Bolin planted water lilies, butterfly bush, and water rush in the fish pond, while around the pond she planted cosmos, calamus, and iris~

To the east of the garden was a patch of weedy wasteland that needed to be transformed into a small garden. Before and after comparison photos:

First, stairs were built, and a small path was paved with bluestone slabs. Then shrubs and flowers were transplanted. Following the path to its end, there is a corner, which Bolin turned into a rest area:

On the small circular raised platform, a wooden swing was set up, with an arched flower gate behind it planted with climbing monthly roses. The ground is paved with tiles featuring a pebble mosaic pattern, and several black wrought-iron tables and chairs are placed there. In leisure time, drinking tea and chatting is simply wonderful!

This is the small garden on the east side!

Garden renovation part two: Building a circular walkway and planting various flowers and plants

Since the garden is a large sloping hillside, the first step was to adapt to local conditions and build a circular walkway. While connecting all the areas, it also creates the effect of a winding path leading to secluded spots and changing scenery with every step!

The hillside vegetation was bare and overgrown with weeds. During the process of building the path, weeds had to be removed and flowers and trees planted at the same time~

Woody plants such as cherry trees and red maples were planted on the outer perimeter of the slope, low shrubs were planted along the path, and a handful of wildflower seeds was scattered beneath the shrubs. Throughout this process, constant adjustments and enrichment were needed!

In this way, with large trees, shrubs, and flowers and grasses, the plants in the garden gradually gained a sense of layering.

The bluestone-paved stone step path extends all the way to the staircase at the entrance of the second-level house~

At this point, the prototype of the entire garden was in place,

What remained was to plant flowers and plants!

Climbing roses and monthly roses covering the walls:

Large patches of tulips~

Romantic wisteria flowers

Delicate Oriental lilies

Gorgeous hydrangeas of various colors

Wood sorrel covering the ground

Renovating the vegetable garden and orchard, tasting the flavors of nature

Bolin built the vegetable garden and orchard on the upper levels. Cucumbers, green beans, amaranth... all kinds of vegetables grew lush and vibrant, with extremely promising growth~

A patch of corn was planted around the perimeter of the vegetable garden, and a few sunflowers were planted at the base of the wall~

Fruits and vegetables harvested from the vegetable garden

Fresh cucumbers - when there were too many to eat, they were pickled into pickled cucumbers, which look especially appetizing with rice!

Using sword beans and eggs to make braised noodles is also a delicious dish~

Eggs and purslane can be made into delicious vegetable pancakes~

Between the vegetable garden and the orchard is a long grape trellis corridor!

The corridor is hung with gourds, loofahs, and bitter melons, as well as intertwined pumpkin vines~

Chinese trumpet creeper and wisteria are planted along the corridor~

Passing through the corridor and entering the orchard, various fruits are planted inside, including peach, plum, apricot, jujube, persimmon, loquat, blueberry, and more~

Every summer and autumn, there is always an abundance of fruit to harvest and share with relatives and friends!

The entire garden was built by Bolin and her husband with their own hands. With a passion for nature, they continuously overcame various obstacles, read books and magazines, studied online, and picked up tips from veteran flower enthusiasts... and finally achieved today's results.

Toiling from dawn to dusk every day, though the body is tired, the heart is filled with excitement and joy!

Pastoral life, leisurely and peaceful

The pastoral scenery is enchanting, but what is most enviable is the carefree pastoral life: in the early morning, waking to birdsong, breathing in a mouthful of fresh mountain air - crisp and refreshing!

In the mist, picking a few fresh fruits and vegetables to make a delicious breakfast~

Casually gathering a bouquet of hydrangeas and sunflowers from the garden to make a beautiful flower arrangement~

In the afternoon, brewing a cup of coffee and enjoying the peace of the mountains~

In the evening, inviting a few friends over to gather and chat, indulging in delicious food, fine wine, and beautiful scenery~

In leisure time, sitting alone at the mountaintop, watching the clouds roll and unroll~

On holidays, going on a self-driving tour to Sichuan, Tibet, and Yunnan, experiencing different mountain and river scenery~

Seeing all this, are you flower enthusiasts also enchanted?

Bore Bolin can be said to be a winner in life

Everyone wants to have such a pastoral life!

Of course, some people will say, Huahua, you're dreaming again

Life is already hard enough, but dreams should still be dreamed

What if one day they come true?
