As people's material life has become vastly richer, solving the problem of food and clothing is no longer an issue, and people are gradually paying attention to the health and nutrition of their food. In daily life, people's food is also rich and varied. But I wonder if you have noticed that more and more people now like to eat wild vegetables. In the 1960s and 1970s, wild vegetables were dug up and eaten by poor people, but now, more and more city dwellers like to dig wild vegetables to eat. Everyone knows the reason when they think about it: some wild vegetables are far richer in nutrients than the vegetables we commonly see, even though they are just wild grasses growing in the fields. Many of them have medicinal value and health benefits.

Today Shitou is sharing two kinds of "longevity herbs" with everyone: purslane (Portulaca oleracea) and bajiangcao (Japanese butterbur, Petasites japonicus). They are common wild grasses; in the past, when people came across them growing at the edges of fields, they were hoed away as weeds. In fact, used as food, they are both nutritious health foods. Today Shitou will teach everyone to grow these two wild grasses as potted plants indoors, so they can be eaten and used right away and picked at any time.

Now follow Shitou to learn about and plant these two "longevity herbs"!

Two kinds of "longevity herbs": pick a few stems and plant them on the balcony, and in 30 days they grow into potted plants, a good medicine for "lowering blood pressure"!

Purslane (Portulaca oleracea):

Purslane could not be more common; you can often see this plump, fat, creeping plant in the wild. In fact, purslane is a plant with very high medicinal value. It can reduce inflammation and dissolve blood stasis, and treat dysentery, enteritis and other diseases; used medicinally it can also lower blood pressure, lower blood lipids and lower blood sugar. As a food, it is truly a "health vegetable": purslane is rich in protein, amino acids, vitamins and organic potassium salts, and of course these effects have been proven by medical science. Not only that, after skin is bitten by mosquitoes in summer, cut off purslane stems, mash them, and apply them to the red and swollen area to relieve itching and reduce inflammation.

Purslane is a very easy-to-grow creeping plant. Each time we pick it in the wild, we can bring back a few fresh stems, insert them into a flower pot, place them on the balcony to care for, and give them plenty of water and light, and they can grow until they fill the pot. To grow purslane well, one thing is very important: the potted plant must be placed in a ventilated spot, because the plant has always grown outdoors and is used to a ventilated environment. To make it grow well indoors, it is best to put it in a ventilated indoor spot; this way the plant can grow quickly and fully meet a family's needs.

Bajiangcao (Japanese butterbur)

Bajiangcao is also often called the longevity herb. This grass originated in Japan and later spread to China. It has become a common outdoor wild grass. Bajiangcao is a perennial plant with persistent roots, a large herbaceous plant that can grow to about one meter tall. Bajiangcao has the functions of calming the mind and refreshing the brain, and lowering blood pressure, and it is also a wild vegetable that people often eat.

Bajiangcao not only has health benefits, but as an indoor foliage flower it is also very beautiful. It is generally propagated by cuttings: after collecting bajiangcao stems from the wild, insert them into a flower pot, and in one week they grow into a new potted plant. When growing bajiangcao, take special care not to put it in direct sunlight; after exposure to strong sun, the plant's leaves will wither and die. It is best to put it on a balcony in a ventilated spot with scattered light, where it easily grows until it fills the pot. By then, whether as an ornamental flower or an edible vegetable, it is very good.

For friends who love growing flowers, growing them well is not difficult. With just a little hands-on effort, you can grow this longevity herb indoors; it not only greens the home and purifies the air, but can also serve as a health food to meet the family's needs and make the whole family healthier.
