Complete Guide to Pumpkin Planting Methods and Timing

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
When planting pumpkins, choose spring or autumn, select land with higher elevation and good drainage and irrigation, carry out deep ploughing, and spread farmyard manure as a base fertiliser. When sowing, plant the seeds in the field at certain intervals, then cover them with soil. When the vines grow to more than two metres, remove the growing tips of the vines to increase the yield.

I. Planting Methods

1. Land selection and preparation: Choose land with relatively high elevation and good drainage and irrigation, to prevent water from being difficult to drain away and causing waterlogging. When preparing the land, plough deeply and spread farmyard manure as a base fertiliser, so as to ensure soil fertility.

2. Sowing method: In the prepared field, place 3 to 5 seeds in each hole at certain intervals, then cover them with soil.

3. Field management: When the vines grow to more than two metres, remove the growing tips of the vines so that they produce more runners, thereby increasing the pumpkin yield. Fertiliser can be applied after planting and when the vines have grown to about 20 cm.

II. Planting Time

When planting pumpkins, choose spring or autumn. In spring it is generally from January to March, using the method of raising seedlings and transplanting them; in autumn it is generally sown from July to August, using the method of direct sowing.
