What is the difference between Chinese aloe and Aloe vera?
I. Leaf differences
The leaves of Chinese aloe are lanceolate, about 30-80 cm long, about 3-16 cm wide, and about 2.5-6 cm thick, with acuminate tips, clasping bases, and spiny teeth along the margins. The leaf color is light green, sometimes with pale white spots; as the leaves grow, the spots gradually disappear.
The leaves of Aloe vera are narrowly lanceolate and much smaller than those of the former, about 14-36 cm long and about 2-6 cm wide. The tips are long and pointed, the bases are relatively broad, and the color is powdery green, also with spots; after the spots disappear, a layer of white bloom remains.
II. Flower differences
Chinese aloe has a raceme, about 40-80 cm tall, usually yellow-green in color, sometimes purple, with slightly red spots. The flowering period is July-August.
Aloe vera also has a raceme, slightly taller than the former, about 60-90 cm, and the flowers are yellow with red spots. The flowering period is February-March.
