Plump, thick aloe leaves are the perfect state many gardeners strive for, but sometimes the tender, juicy leaves you just brought home look dried out within a few days. Why is that? Let me share some experience with you on growing aloe.

As for the environment, if you buy aloe at a flower market, in the end do not put it in direct sunlight. You can first place it in a shady spot for a few days to let it adjust. Because flowers and plants have suddenly changed environments, just like people, they cannot adapt to the change. If they do not grow well, after a few days you can put them in a sunny spot on the balcony.

As for the potting soil, it is best to use breathable potting soil, and make sure ventilation and water permeability are good, so the plant can grow well. If the potting soil clumps, first, watering will not soak through, and second, the aloe roots cannot spread out, so they cannot fully absorb water, and the leaves are prone to becoming shriveled. You can use leaf mold mixed with some river sand, and you can also add some original soil to retain moisture, but do not add too much, otherwise water permeability will be very poor.

As for watering, you must never water aloe too much. It feels like succulents; they store water. When watering, be sure to observe the potting soil. Water only when the soil is dry, and never water when it is wet, otherwise root rot and waterlogging are very likely to occur.

As for fertilizing, to grow aloe leaves plump, fertilizer is certainly indispensable. You can use cooked soybeans as fertilizer. Dig a few holes at the edge of the potting soil and put the soybeans in as a slow-release fertilizer. This is a good choice.
