Throw an onion into a flower pot, it sprouts in half a month, blooms twice a year, and the flowers are big and gorgeous

Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) may not be very familiar to everyone. Compared with some commonly kept houseplants such as clivia, asparagus fern, and spider plant, people's knowledge of it is truly very limited. Amaryllis is actually a kind of stunning beauty too, but when it blooms, a single pot can produce dozens of flowers, in various colors, big and gorgeous, giving a full sense of achievement, and it can bloom twice a year. Generally speaking, when we plant amaryllis, we use its bulb for planting, which is actually its root ball, something that looks like an onion. Throw one "onion" into a flower pot, it sprouts in half a month, blooms twice a year, and when it blooms the flowers are big and gorgeous!
Generally speaking, the suitable growing temperature for amaryllis is about 18 to 25 degrees Celsius, so in this current season, it is the right time to plant. Planting amaryllis is also very simple. We just need to dig out a few larger bulbs of good quality that are not rotten, then prepare a slightly larger pot, and bury the bulb in it, but do not bury it completely, leave a little exposed. Then naturally you need to water it thoroughly, but remember that water must not accumulate. Generally speaking, after we plant it, it will sprout in about half a month. When it can grow to about six or seven centimeters, it has the conditions to continue growing, and as long as it is well cared for, it will bloom normally.
The care of amaryllis is also very simple and does not require too much effort. First, in terms of soil, we need to choose sandy soil that has both drainage and fertility. We can make our own mix with a relatively simple method: half leaf mold and half peat soil, then add some river sand and garden soil and mix them together for planting. Soil is still quite important for amaryllis, so do not neglect it.
Second, from the perspective of the growing temperature environment, its suitable temperature was mentioned earlier. Actually, amaryllis is quite contradictory in this respect. On the one hand, it blooms facing the sun and likes sunlight, but on the other hand, it cannot tolerate high temperatures, so it is suggested that when the temperature is still relatively high now, you can appropriately shade it a little, and it is best to place it in a ventilated and bright place.
Finally, in terms of watering. For our amaryllis, the thing it fears most is water accumulating in the pot, and it cannot tolerate waterlogging, because its bulb can easily rot in such an environment. So it is suggested that when watering, follow the principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet; in short, water again when you see the potting soil has dried, as this will be beneficial to its growth.
