The philosopher Plato said: "If you are not happy and not joyful, then let go. The greatest regret in life is nothing other than easily giving up what should not be given up, and stubbornly persisting in what should not be persisted in."
Having seen all the flowers bloom and fall, and grown used to the disturbances of human affairs, I increasingly feel that letting go is a kind of wisdom.
The rest of life is long; the moment of letting go is the beginning of cutting off troubles, the possession that comes after being willing to part with things, and a kind of self-cultivation that everyone must go through.
01
Letting go is a kind of beginning
For many things, only by letting go can you start anew.
In this life, not everything can go as you wish. The person you cannot hold onto, the sand you cannot grasp, you might as well toss it away with your hand. Only by learning to empty out and let go can you free up a corner, free up time, and seek the happiness that truly suits you.
On a road you have walked for a long time without yet seeing the end, choose to change direction;
In something you have persisted at for a long time without result, choose to let go;
For a person you have loved and given much to without any response, choose to let go.
Sometimes, stubbornly persisting in the wrong direction is not as good as stepping onto the right direction; only after the darkness gives way to brightness can you savor the infinite flavors of life.
When we begin to let go of that past we once could not stop thinking about, and let go of the torment we put ourselves through for fear of losing, we can once again live for ourselves.
As Zaxi Lamu said: Letting go is not giving up, and following fate is not being careless.
True letting go is, after doing things with all your heart, a respect for life, a kindness and tolerance toward yourself, and even more so the beginning of another stage of life.
02
Letting go is a kind of possession
There is a very classic saying: People do not learn to let go only when they possess something; rather, when they do not have it, they gradually understand letting go, and only then do they begin to possess!
The ancients often said, "Be willing to part with things to gain things; only with letting go can there be gaining." Learn to let go, and only then can you pursue something; know how to let go, and only then can you go farther. Those who are unwilling to let go of anything will lose the most precious things.
This preciousness is not an external thing, but inner peace.
Most of life's suffering comes from the trouble of being unable to let go of all obsessions, like a snail carrying a heavy shell, with life full of heavy shackles and bonds.
You should know that these shackles are all placed on yourself by yourself. The wise act through non-action, while the foolish bind themselves. Letting go of the obsessions in your heart is the moment of removing the shackles and gaining inner freedom.
Letting go is not frightening; everything you lose will be compensated for in another way.
Letting go is not cowardice; instead, it is a kind of bravery. Let go of the self that is struggling bitterly, face your own shortcomings directly, and do what you ought to do. The rest of life is not long; only by placing life in its proper position can you reap a rich life.
03
Letting go is a kind of cultivation
If "being able to pick up" is the addition of life, then "being able to put down" is the subtraction of life. Having come to this world for a while, it is not about desperately pursuing and possessing; sometimes, letting go is also an exit from a closed life.
Being unable to let go ultimately becomes a magic that blinds us to the whole, blocking our eyes from discovering more of the world's beauty, while we remain trapped in the demonic obstacle.
Being unable to let go, yet little do people realize that letting go and giving up are different. Giving up is losing what originally belonged to you, while letting go is releasing what never belonged to you.
In a single thought, the mind becomes clear.
The rest of life is not long; learn to let go.
Only by knowing how to let go does life become more perfect.
