Pothos is a plant that can be grown either in water or in soil. Water-grown pothos roots more vigorously and only needs nutrient solution added regularly, while soil-grown pothos grows more vigorous stems and leaves. Moreover, water-grown pothos is not suitable to be placed in sunlight, while soil-grown pothos can be given appropriate light every day.

Pothos is not very picky about soil, but the soil is required to be loose with good drainage. Instead, it does not have great demands for fertility. A little more fertility can promote more vigorous growth of pothos, while with less fertility the leaves will grow a bit thinner and weaker.

Therefore, the soil for cultivating pothos must be mixed with an appropriate amount of perlite or river sand to avoid water accumulation in the soil, and it can also very well increase drainage and keep the soil loose and breathable.

For the soil for cultivating pothos, you can choose peat soil and perlite mixed at a ratio of 2:1, place it at the bottom of the flower pot, spread a layer of decomposed organic fertilizer or manure, and at the drainage holes you can spread some granular stones or tiles.

Of course, you can also mix leaf mold with river sand at a ratio of about 3:1. The soil should be rich in humus, which can promote more vigorous growth of stems and leaves.

If it is garden soil or clay soil, it is not suitable for cultivating pothos, because it easily accumulates water and causes root rot, and the soil also easily clumps, causing the roots to be unable to breathe and the leaves to easily turn yellow.

For cultivating pothos, you also need to choose a suitable flower pot. It is best to use a loose and breathable red clay pot or bowl pot. You can also choose a plastic pot with relatively more drainage holes. Do not choose a container with no drainage holes or with small drainage holes for cultivation, and do not use cement pots or iron pots with poor breathability and drainage.

The rest is to pay attention to the care environment. Place it in a ventilated and light-transmitting position. It can be a windowsill with scattered light every day, or a bright indoor environment. Keep it warm and humid all year round, avoid freezing, and keep the minimum care temperature above five degrees.

The environment for caring for pothos also needs to maintain a certain air humidity and avoid dry air. You can regularly spray mist water around it to maintain relatively high air humidity. If you find yellowing leaves, you need to cut them off in time. If you find diseased leaves, also cut them off, and promptly spray chlorothalonil or thiophanate-methyl solution, once every 5~7 days. Spraying continuously several times can completely eliminate fungal infection diseases.
