The red ones are delicate, the orange ones are fresh, the white ones are elegant...

At first glance at these flowers

you might not find them surprising

then what about this next one

My god, this must be half a body tall

Yes, their size is basically all between 60-76 cm

Then you must be shocked

How could there be flowers this big

and that bloom into flowers this large

Then the seedling of this whole plant must be even bigger

Actually these fresh flowers

are not real fresh flowers

but are made from paper

Tiffanie Turner

American artist, architect

These giant flowers all come from

this sweet-smiling American artist

Tiffanie Turner

These lifelike flowers

are so realistic they make you doubt your own eyes

Seeing these plump blooms bursting on the branches

even the editor somewhat doubted their own eyes

Are they really folded

to reach such a degree of perfect mimicry

Then this artist must have studied for many years with rich experience

Actually not, Tiffanie Turner is not a professional origami artist

but an architect

Although Tiffanie Turner loved drawing since childhood

and was also obsessed with collecting flowers and plants

under the influence of her engineer father

she became an architect

Every day holding a scale ruler

drawing the firmest and most standard lines

Once, what she hoped for most was

to use her own drawings to leave a brilliant mark in the field of architecture

However change always comes too suddenly

After giving birth to her second child

her left eye mysteriously lost its vision

The doctor told her this could be a precursor to a terminal illness

Although it was only a guess and not confirmed

she still felt the sky darken and the earth dim

Boundless fear made her tremble

She was still young

there were still many things she had not had time to do

and many wishes she had not had time to fulfill

How could her life be taken away by illness just like that

Fortunately in the end it turned out to be only a false alarm

Her vision also began to slowly recover

But after experiencing all these heart-stopping fears

she suddenly understood

life is too limited

Who knows, tomorrow or an accident

which one will come first

In the years one has to live

one should do the things one loves

So she resolutely quit her job

to pursue burlesque performance

This made her body and mind happy

During one performance

Tiffanie Turner needed to hand-make the headpiece for the show

and thus came into contact with the art of paper folding

The flowers she made were hard to tell real from fake

as if just picked

letting people steal the spotlight, like a queen of the show

Clever and deft-handed

she went further and further on the path of making paper flowers

and it became utterly unstoppable

Friends all said the headpieces she made were remarkably true to life

like they had just been picked from the garden

From then on, besides the stage

her paper flowers bloomed in more places in life

A bride's headpiece would not wither even after a whole day

For girls' parties, use flowers to decorate the room

In fact, Tiffanie Turner had loved flowers and plants since childhood

But fresh flowers are beautiful, yet in less than half a day

they will become withered

This brief moment

made her initial joy not last long

and she began to feel sad

But after learning the art of paper folding

Tiffanie Turner had a sudden inspiration

Why not use paper to fold the flowers she liked

using paper flowers to extend the charm of fresh flowers

So, following the size ratio of fresh flowers

she made various paper flowers hard to tell real from fake

to embellish her own life

Roses, peonies, dahlias, lilies...

The flowers that can be seen in flower shops, she could make them all

The forms and colors were as rich as real flowers

However, although these small flowers were very beautiful

although enough to pass as real

modern people still had no time to admire the beauty of flowers

So she took the flowers she made

and enlarged them more than ten times

She said:

Only made like this are they eye-catching enough

I have seen the beauty of flowers, and I also hope the whole world sees it

In fact, enlarged flowers are even harder to make

A flower 24~30 inches in diameter (about 60~76 cm)

contains more than 1000 petals made from Italian crepe paper

Depending on the size of the flower shape and the number of petals

it takes roughly 35~80 hours varying from case to case

Peony petals have several shapes and sizes

Their arrangement and depth of color both change with different positions

However, her life

was not as beautiful as her works

Many years ago, she divorced her husband

and lived on her own with two daughters

During that period, there was much torment

and many times it made her unable to think things through

It was the blooming of paper flowers

that added color to a dim life

Toward creation, she is serious and desperate

often lacking sleep

but still obsessively exploring every detail of the flowers

She would seriously observe the posture of every flower

Whether budding and about to bloom, or bursting open in the air

she would not miss the shape, texture, or color of any posture

Although the leaves are just a supporting role

there can still be no room for the slightest error

The shape of the leaves, the serrations and the symmetry

the form when supporting the flower

none of it can be taken lightly

Because she has a solid foundation in architecture

her understanding of the structure of objects

and the stacking of repeated elements

are all analysed in great depth

Before she starts making

she first completes the design on a computer

then uses crepe paper

to cut out the shape of individual petals

This is a massive undertaking

some flowers need hundreds or even thousands of petals

But for the sufficiently patient Tiffanie Turner

this is not a big problem

The biggest problem is that during the gluing process

every step must be done very carefully

if even one step is not glued properly

it will affect the next stage of the process

and ultimately cause the whole flower's form to fail

Now 38 years old, Tiffanie has opened her own online shop

sharing her making experience and selling handmade paper flowers

She also met her current partner

and together they grow a happy garden

Life cannot always be smooth sailing

Find something you love and stick with it long-term

In your low moments

it will give you firm support and hope

Below, the editor has also found a simple tutorial

let's make one together

Tutorial source: @Yimi Huayi

step 1. Following the template above, use Italian crepe paper in different colours to cut out: 7 small petals, 7 heart-shaped petals, 6 large petals, 3 stamens, 5 sepals, and 3 leaves.

step 2. Cut the three stamens into thin strips

step 3. Use glue to fix the three leaves onto three pieces of wire respectively, then wrap the three stamens around and fix them onto the wire

step 4. Wrap the wire with green floral tape

step 5. Use your hands to crumple the tops of the small petals and fold them inward

step 6. Wrap the small petals around the stamens layer by layer, then glue them in place

step 7. Use your hands to crumple the tops of the heart-shaped petals and fold them inward

step 8. Wrap the heart-shaped petals around the bud layer by layer, then glue them in place

step 9. Use your hands to fold the large petals inward

step 10. Wrap the large petals around the bud layer by layer, then glue them in place

step 11. Glue the sepals under the flower and fix them onto the wire

step 12. Wrap the wire with green floral tape

step 13. Fix the three leaves onto the stem
