How do you transplant Guzmania (Guzmania lingulata) offsets correctly?

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Guzmania offsets should be transplanted after the leaf shoots have grown roots. Take the plant out of the pot, use a knife to separate the offset from the mother plant, plant it separately, then place it in a shady spot for care. Use loose, fertile potting soil for transplanting; you can mix peat or coconut coir with 1/3 to 1/4 perlite for cultivation.

1. Transplanting time

After the flowering period of Guzmania, the original plant will die, and new shoots will sprout from the leaf shoots at the base of the root system. Give these new shoots normal care. Once the leaf shoots have grown three to four normal leaves, they will basically also have developed some roots at their base, and this is the time to transplant.

2. Transplanting method

At this point you can take it out of the pot, use a knife or your hands to directly detach it from the mother plant, then plant it into a new pot, place it in a shady spot to let it recover, and then you can carry out normal management, thus achieving the purpose of transplanting.

When transplanting, note that Guzmania needs loose, fertile potting soil. In most cases, you can use peat or coconut coir mixed with 1/3 to 1/4 perlite for cultivation.
