Flowers chewed to pieces by pests overnight, kill the bugs now or you'll regret it

When you grow flowers, pests and diseases are unavoidable, and when the weather is hot the bugs get even more rampant, so hurry up and wipe out all the pests and diseases while you can, otherwise once the weather turns cold, the bugs will hide away and lay eggs like crazy, and next year you'll regret it!

Scale insects

Damage: Scale insects are extremely stubborn. If you let your guard down, they cling to the plant like psoriasis and won't let go. Succulents, moss rose, Christmas cactus, Medinilla, and many others will all get them!

Solution 1: Baijiu (Chinese liquor)

Take 10ml of baijiu at over 50 degrees, add 20ml of clean water, stir well and spray it on the scale insects. You can spray 2-3 times a week. It works even better than alcohol.

Solution 2: Cigarette butts

Soak 10 cigarette butts in 100ml of clean water for 1 day, then spray it on the scale insects. It can kill the scale insects on 1-2 plants. If you have a lot of flowers, you'll need to collect more cigarette butts.

Solution 3: White vinegar

The white vinegar at home doesn't need to be diluted with water. Use a cotton swab or a large brush to dip it and brush it onto the scale insects. After about 2 hours they die, then spray and rinse with clean water to avoid the white vinegar irritating the plant.

Aphids

Damage: Aphids reproduce fast and can quickly chew through the tender buds of flowers and plants, affecting their normal growth and blooming, and they also attract ants, so you must get rid of them quickly!

Solution 1: Alcohol, laundry detergent

Use a calligraphy brush dipped in alcohol or laundry detergent water to wipe the infested stems and leaves. Do this in a shady spot, otherwise it dries too quickly and the effect is not obvious.

Solution 2: Ladybugs

Careful flower lovers can look outdoors for the aphid's natural enemy, the seven-spot ladybug. Catch two or three and put them near the aphids, and they'll finish them off quickly.

Solution 3: Garlic water

If you've just wiped out the aphids, you can spray garlic water once every 2 days. Crush 3-5 cloves of garlic, add a bowl of water and soak for 3-5 hours, then spray it on the plants to prevent aphids and other pests.

Spider mites

Damage: Spider mites lay eggs very quickly. If white threads (spider silk) appear on the leaves, they're definitely on the underside of the leaves, and they'll also crawl into the stems, hollowing out the plant!

Solution 1: Flour

Take a handful of flour, mix it with 200ml of clean water and stir well, use a brush to apply it to both sides of the infested leaves. After applying, wait 2-3 hours; once the flour water dries, the spider mites suffocate and die, then rinse the flour off the leaves with clean water.

Solution 2: Sulfur soap

Cut off a piece of sulfur soap about the size of your thumb, dissolve it in warm water, let it cool, put it in a small spray bottle, and spray it on the infested leaves. Results can be seen after 3-5 hours, and afterwards it's best to rinse with clean water too.

Solution 3: Milk

The plain milk at home, expired or not, spray it on both sides of the leaves. After 2-3 hours when it dries, the spider mites will either drink the milk until they burst, drown in the milk, or suffocate to death; finally, rinse the plant with clean water too.

Thrips

Damage: Thrips are the most common and most vicious pest. They are very small and hide in curled leaves and flower markings, causing leaves to dry out and curl and flowers to fall off prematurely, and in severe cases the whole plant dies.

Solution 1: Fengyoujing (essential balm)

Leaves that already have thrips can no longer recover. If it's severe, cut them off quickly. Drop 3-5 drops of Fengyoujing on the soil surface of the pot, and you can cover it with a bag for 2-3 hours.

Solution 2: Fuyanjie (feminine hygiene wash)

The disinfecting ingredients in Fuyanjie are even more effective at killing thrips than insecticide. Mix Fuyanjie with water at 1:1, spray it on the infested leaves, spray 2-3 times a week, and you can wipe out the thrips. It can also treat powdery mildew on plants.

Solution 3: Hang yellow and blue sticky boards

Experiments say thrips like to fly toward yellow and blue objects. Flower lovers with lots of plants at home can hang yellow and blue sticky boards among the flowers. They can catch not only thrips but also fungus gnats and leafcutter bees.
