Huahua is an impatient gardener, and when it comes to growing flowers, the last thing she wants is slow growth, so she especially loves flowers that easily overflow their pots. Among all the varieties she has grown, there are 7 that once they start overflowing, there's no stopping them, and within a few months there aren't enough pots to go around. She has given them away to friends and family everywhere, growing them until it's simply annoying!

Kalanchoe

Kalanchoe is also called "life plant" (Bryophyllum). A few years ago, Huahua grew one as a succulent, and the result was completely out of control. Somehow it fell to the ground and actually grew into a huge patch!

Besides the common broad-leaf kalanchoe, Huahua has also seen many gardening friends grow the stick-leaf kalanchoe shown below. It's quite pretty, but just one look at those densely packed little plantlets and Huahua gets scared!

Propagation and care:

Kalanchoe reproduces by growing tiny plantlets along the leaf edges. These plantlets grow their own aerial roots and take root and survive after falling off. In the floor tile gaps in the photo below, it's all kalanchoe babies!

There's nothing particularly special about growing kalanchoe. Just don't let it bake in the blazing sun in summer. The more you ignore it, the more wildly it grows. For gardening friends troubled by this, Huahua advises you not to toss it around carelessly, or it will spread over a huge area, rivaling an invasive species!

Spider plant

Spider plants also count as explosive growers. Just look at gardening friend @Hua Kuang Sheng's curly spider plant, one plant grew into a whole patch, filling an entire corner of the home!

Propagation and care:

Spider plants are easy to keep alive, but hard to get to produce babies. This gardening friend's secret is homemade fertilizer. Just look at all the bottles and jars at home, all homemade fruit-peel fertilizer and rice-washing-water fertilizer. After fermenting, dilute with water and water twice a month. Normally, mist the spider plant leaves more often.

When the spider plant produces babies and grows aerial roots, first cut them off and plant them in a sand box, mist to keep moist and let them establish roots. After half a month, once the seedlings are stable, transplant them into pots.

Aloe

Gardening friend @Cao Ma Kuang Mo 1 found this overgrown aloe in the neighborhood. Just looking at it, you can tell the owner "rejected" it because it had overflowed its pot so terrifyingly, and it was tossed out with no one caring for it, turning red and nearly dying.

After peeling off the broken pot, it turned out to be all roots inside, with very little soil, showing just how strong the aloe's "will to survive" is! By Huahua's naked-eye judgment, it might be Chinese aloe (Aloe vera var. chinensis). Remove the dead leaves, keep the green parts, let them dry, and it can still survive!

Propagation and care:

The soil for planting aloe can't be too hard; sandy soil is best, as it helps the pups sprout. Spring, summer and autumn are all aloe's growing seasons. During this time, control watering, wait until the soil is completely dry before watering thoroughly, to stimulate sprouting.

Aloe is recognized as a lazy person's plant. Normally give it plenty of sun, and never water too frequently, or it will grow leggy and get thinner and thinner. You can water it with fermented rice-washing water and soybean water to keep it nice and plump!

Offset cactus (Mammillaria)

Offset cacti are cacti that grow by dividing into separate bodies. Unlike traditional single cacti that grow slowly, offset cacti keep producing small offsets nonstop. Those with trypophobia should grow them with caution!

Propagation and care:

You can cut off the small offsets from offset cacti, apply some carbendazim to the cut, then dry them in a cool place, plant them directly in soil, water sparingly, and keep them ventilated and they'll survive~

Offset cacti are cacti, so when watering, don't splash water on the body, as it easily rots. Use a long-spout watering can to water into the pot. Normally give plenty of sun to avoid leggy growth~

Heartleaf ice plant (Aptenia cordifolia)

Heartleaf ice plant survives from just a pinch of a stem, and when it overflows its pot there's no holding back, you can't even see the pot anymore, and it can even grow into a waterfall!

Propagation and care:

Cut a few stems of heartleaf ice plant, with or without flowers, stick them in moist, breathable soil, and keep them in a cool place. If they still look perky after 3 days, that means they're taking. Mist occasionally to keep moist, and they'll root in less than ten days.

Normally don't water too frequently; misting the leaves more is better. Plenty of sunlight makes the leaves greener. Pruning 2 months before the flowering period and pruning after the flowering period are both essential~

Garden balsam

Around the front and back of the house in my hometown, there's always a dense patch of garden balsam growing. Its reproductive ability is astonishing. Once the seed pods burst open after flowering, the seeds immediately fall to the ground, and next year there's an even bigger patch!

Propagation and care:

Once the garden balsam flowers fade, you can collect its seed pods, put them in a plastic bag and store them in a dry place at home. In April-May of the following year, just scatter the seeds on soil, water a little, and they'll sprout.

Garden balsam likes cool, shady places. In summer, avoid direct sun exposure, and keep the potting soil slightly moist. At home, it's best to use leaf mold soil; good nutrition will grow plump garden balsam~

Pennywort (Centella / coin grass)

Pennywort has astonishing pot-overflowing power. Many gardening friends report that their pots at home are too small, so they can only grow it in big vats or large foam boxes, and even then they still have to throw away over ten jin (5+ kg). It really grows too much!

Propagation and care:

Pennywort is very easy to keep alive. Take one stem and grow it hydroponically, and in a month it becomes a clump. But there's not much nutrition in water. Huahua suggests growing it together with fish, as the fish's bath water is its best fertilizer!

Pennywort tends to sprawl out in all directions. You can regularly give it a buzz cut, which makes it overflow its pot even faster, and it grows evenly, looking more beautiful!
