Clivia leaves are wide, thick and glossy green, very beautiful, and the flowers are bright and grand. Many friends hope the Clivia they grow can bloom smoothly in winter. Autumn has already arrived, so how should you care for Clivia to make it grow more vigorously and bloom smoothly in winter?

Tips for caring for Clivia in autumn

If you want Clivia to grow more leaves, larger leaves and more flowers, you need to fertilize it in autumn. So how should you fertilize Clivia most appropriately?

The timing of autumn fertilization for Clivia mainly depends on temperature. If the temperature is too high, it is not suitable; as long as it is below 30 degrees, you can fertilize, and you can start fertilizing at the end of August and the beginning of September.

When fertilizing Clivia for the first time in autumn, the amount must be small and must be diluted, because Clivia has just passed through the hot summer and has just come out of dormancy, so applying a small amount of fertilizer can promote it to enter growth as soon as possible. Whether it is a small amount of chemical fertilizer or organic fertilizer water, use a small amount and dilute it to avoid burning the roots.

For the second fertilization half a month later, it is best to mainly use organic fertilizer at this time, which is more conducive to absorption by the potting soil. Put a little cooked peanut, sesame cake fertilizer, or organic fertilizer you have composted yourself from leaves and fruit peels into the Clivia pot. The amount of fertilizer should be a bit more than the first time. It will make Clivia leaves grow wide, green and shiny.

When fertilizing, be sure to pay attention: never use unfermented raw fertilizer, otherwise it will burn the roots and yellow the leaves. When fertilizing, keep the fertilizer a little farther from the roots, especially chemical fertilizer; be sure to use a small amount and just shallowly bury it at the edge of the pot. Generally, choose to fertilize when the potting soil is relatively dry and at dusk, for the best effect. Do not apply too much nitrogen fertilizer to avoid leggy growth; after fertilizing, increase the light.

When the temperature gradually drops, the amount of fertilizer should also become smaller. When the temperature is below 10 degrees, do not fertilize anymore. This is to avoid damaging the roots and rotting the leaves.

For small Clivia seedlings, because they have not reached flowering age, only a small amount of compound fertilizer is needed. Before winter begins, apply a phosphorus-potassium fertilizer once to Clivia, which can improve its cold resistance and make the plant grow more robust. The flowers in winter will be more vivid and beautiful, big and abundant!
