Bowl lotus buds wither before opening? It may be these 7 reasons

?There must be quite a few people who like lotus; the lotus is the representative flower of summer. But because this flower is not very suitable for growing at home, many people choose to grow bowl lotus at home instead.
Bowl lotus and lotus belong to the same family, both in the water lily family (Nymphaeaceae), and are small to medium-sized lotuses. Because they look smaller than lotus, they are called bowl lotus. Bowl lotus is a flower suitable for home growing. When the bowl lotus flowering season arrives, many friends find that the bowl lotus buds wither before they even open, and they get extremely anxious. Today Huahua will talk with everyone about exactly why the buds wither before opening.
1. Soil and fertilizer relationship
For bowl lotus, the soil used to plant it must not be too shallow, otherwise it will not easily take root, and the fertilizer must not be too thick. If the soil cannot absorb it and it cannot dissipate, it will harm the bowl lotus seedlings. So check whether the problem is that the soil is not deep enough or the fertilizer is too thick.
2. Sunburn
In summer, if bowl lotus shows this condition, the first thing to consider is whether it is because the light is too strong and the bowl lotus has been scorched by the blazing sun. Some bowl lotus varieties, under exposure to 38 degrees Celsius, form a layer of dried outer coat, and this coat tightly wraps the flower buds, preventing the flowers from opening normally; over time, the buds dry up and fall off.
3. Air too dry
It may also be because the air is too dry. Some bowl lotus only open when the air humidity is 70 or 80 and the light is not strong. Because the air is too dry, the petals wither, so they cannot open. If this is the cause, you can use a sprayer to spray the flower buds.
4. Fertilizer too concentrated
A large part of the reason bowl lotus buds wither is unreasonable fertilizing. Applying quick-acting chemical fertilizers with high nitrogen content such as ammonium bicarbonate and urea very easily damages buds that have already formed but have not yet had time to open, causing them to wither. Moreover, this situation generally appears 4-8 days after fertilizing, and by then it is too late; the flower buds have basically already withered.
5. Insufficient nutrients
This condition varies from flower to flower. Bowl lotus includes abundant-flowering types, early-flowering types, and so on. Among abundant-flowering types, if 6-8 buds appear within a week and 2-3 of them wither, it means the nutrients have not kept up; while some early-flowering bowl lotus produce buds before the leaves have even fully grown, and such buds are not easy to keep alive, so withering is very normal.
6. Weather factors
During the development of bowl lotus, the temperature of the growing environment must not be lower than 18 degrees. If bud withering or halted development occurs, it is worth paying attention to whether the recent weather has been continuous clouds and rain. If so, it is because the temperature is too low and the light is insufficient, which causes the buds to stop developing.
7. External factors
External factors include human factors and natural factors. Touching the buds forcefully or too frequently will damage them, and when the wind is especially strong, forgetting to move the bowl lotus back indoors and letting it suffer external wind will also disrupt the growth of the buds.
If the bowl lotus you keep at home also shows this kind of problem, you might as well look for the cause here, so you can treat the symptoms appropriately.
