Introduction
Green plants in pots are essential decorative touches for home life. Keeping some flowers and plants at home brings many benefits: it beautifies the room and lifts the mood. "Flower Sound Potted Plant Diary, Issue 1232" introduces you to a plant with an exceptionally long blooming period.
Today's star
Is there a potted flowering plant with a very long blooming period that leaves a deep impression? You might think of herbaceous flowers such as moss rose, petunia, and lisianthus, which can bloom in all four seasons, but these plants do not bloom continuously for long. The one with the truly longest blooming period is actually this one - the crown of thorns.
Crown of thorns
Crown of thorns, also known as Christ thorn and iron begonia, is a perennial sprawling shrub in the spurge family, native to Madagascar in Africa, and cultivated throughout northern and southern China. Its branches bear long spines and it produces red, yellow, and other colored flowers, with red being the most common; red flowers paired with green leaves give a very good ornamental effect.
Exceptionally long blooming period
The crown of thorns is the plant with the longest blooming period the author has ever seen. Many are planted in the flower beds of the park downstairs; they began blooming around the Spring Festival and still have not stopped, blooming uninterrupted through all four seasons with new buds constantly appearing and an extremely long ornamental period. This is also one of the reasons it has become one of China's main landscaping and beautification plants. Its blooming period is truly too long - it is simply a flowering machine.
Beautiful and easy to care for
The crown of thorns is also a very easy plant to grow. It is itself a kind of cactus, with super tenacious vitality, and does not demand much from its growing environment or soil. A branch stuck in soil will root, and it does not like heavy feeding or watering; watering once every ten days to half a month is no problem. It loves light; with sufficient light, it blooms more and the flower color becomes deeper.
Red flowers paired with green leaves
The crown of thorns has emerald-green leaves, glossy and shiny, evergreen through all four seasons. It is itself a foliage plant, and with its small red flowers dotted about, red flowers paired with green leaves complement each other perfectly, making it widely loved. It is perennial; plant it once and enjoy flowers every day - a rare fine potted plant.
