Pig prices have risen continuously over the past few days, delighting pig farmers. Just as pig prices are about to break 8 yuan, some pig farmers are unhappy instead, saying they don't want them to rise anymore. Clearly, rising pig prices are a good thing, so why are they saying they don't want them to rise?

The editor was fortunate enough to chat with several pig farmers, and through those conversations found that the reason pig farmers no longer want pig prices to rise comes down to the following points.

1. Expanding scale

Raising pigs is not a one-off deal, after all. If pig prices rise too fast right now, you can indeed make some money by selling pigs, but high prices are the easiest thing to breed speculators and profiteers. Just think: if pig prices rose to 8 yuan now, would some people carry out large-scale secondary fattening? In another three or four months, it would be November or December, and at that point, could the pig prices be guaranteed? There would be a very high probability they would fall, right!

2. Quit while you're ahead

As for the current pig prices, many pig farmers still take a very rational view, not hoping for too much and being satisfied with a steady 7 yuan 20 or 30 fen. If you blindly pursue high pig prices, then after a year or so, pig prices are bound to crash in the end, and falling to 4 yuan is not impossible either. Raising pigs is like doing business: if you can keep a steady trickle of income and the profit is still decent, then pig farmers are certainly happy.

3. Imported meat and other factors

Affected by this year's pig cycle, the volume of imported meat has declined compared with previous years. Add to that increasingly strict environmental protection policies, and the conditions for pig farmers to survive will become more and more demanding in the future. Of course, those who remain will certainly be the elite, and only the backward ones will be eliminated. The editor also has relatives and friends who raise pigs, and the thing they said most this year was: when will pig prices ever get better? Even making just 200 yuan per pig would be enough to satisfy them.

In the editor's view, this kind of worry among pig farmers is very normal. After all, raising pigs is not a one-off deal, and many families rely on pig farming to support the entire family's expenses. With the mindset that the less trouble the better, it would be fine for pig prices to stay steady at 7 yuan 50. What does everyone think?
