The jade plant (Crassula ovata) is a common household flower, and many flower lovers like to grow jade plants. On one hand, because the jade plant has fleshy leaves and stems, it easily grows into an old stump, which looks very nice. On the other hand, it is also because the jade plant is very easy to grow, and basically you don't need to pay attention to anything during the process for it to grow very well. Although it is an easy-to-grow and nice-looking plant, when the growing conditions are extremely harsh, pests and diseases can also appear.

Like the situation in the picture: there is white powder and insects on the leaves, which means the jade plant has powdery mildew. This is mainly caused by poor lighting and poor airflow in the plant's growing environment. Although the jade plant is not picky about its growing environment, growing it long-term in a closed and shaded environment will cause pests and diseases on the plant's leaves, and in this case simple treatment is needed.

1. Pruning

When leaves like this appear, directly prune off the diseased leaves to prevent and control the spread of pests and diseases. All similar leaves must be pruned off completely. If it is still severe, the entire branch must be pruned.

2. Spray carbendazim

Generally, when a jade plant has this kind of powdery mildew, the plant is not safe after pruning. To solve powdery mildew, you need to spray the plant with a 0.2% carbendazim aqueous solution for sterilization and disinfection. Spray once a week, and spray four times in a row, and basically the pests can be killed.

3. Move to a new home

Actually, when a plant has this kind of pests and diseases, it is mainly because the growing environment has poor ventilation and poor lighting. The pruned jade plant pot should be placed in a place with good ventilation and good lighting. In a season like this - the cool autumn - the pot can be placed outdoors for growing. On one hand, it can increase the light intensity; on the other hand, it can increase the degree of ventilation, which can effectively avoid the occurrence of pests and diseases.

If you want the jade plant to grow more leaves and a rounder plant shape, in addition to normal care, pruning is indispensable. In spring and autumn each year, the jade plant can be pruned to remove apical dominance. Pinching off with your hands or directly cutting off the top pair of leaves with scissors can speed up the growth of side buds. Let the plant's branches grow more new buds, so that the whole plant shape is fuller.
