The cactus is a very easy-to-grow houseplant. Many people keep cacti in the office or the living room, because cacti can block radiation and absorb formaldehyde. Of course there is another reason: cacti are very easy to grow and are a must-choose plant for many beginner flower growers. But many people overlook one thing: cacti can also produce beautiful flowers, and in no small number. A blooming cactus is no less ornamental than a Christmas cactus or a kalanchoe.

A cactus bursting into "50" blooms: the secret is "it", add a little and you get an "amazing effect"!

Take this pot of cactus: in its flowering season it can produce 50 flowers. The dense large yellow flowers are very beautiful. Of course, many factors affect whether a cactus blooms. First is choosing cactus varieties that flower easily, such as: Gymnocalycium baldianum and Echinopsis 'World Map Variegated', both of which are varieties that easily burst into bloom; then there is adjusting the growing conditions.

If you want your cactus to produce more flowers, fertilizing is very important. Cacti generally bloom in summer and autumn each year. So before the flowering season you need to supplement fertilizer. Choose this secret remedy: monopotassium phosphate; because the opening of plant flowers is very closely related to phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer, and monopotassium phosphate is rich in phosphorus and potassium. In early summer each year, the cactus enters a rapid growth period, and at this time you should increase fertilizing for the plant. Choosing a 0.2% monopotassium phosphate aqueous solution has a magical effect; spray the cactus once a week. It is best to spray in the early morning, so the plant can effectively absorb the phosphorus and potassium fertilizer; spraying four times in a row is enough.

This period is also the period of flower bud development, and sufficient fertilizer supplementation will activate more flower buds to develop. We know that plant growth is affected by many combined factors. If you want your cactus to produce more flowers, fertilizing alone cannot achieve the expected effect. For cacti, you also need to pay special attention to watering and light.

Cacti like an environment with plenty of sunlight, but in midsummer you must not leave the cactus under the sun to bake. High temperatures and baking will damage the flower buds. When that happens, the plant will not bloom. So in summer you should provide proper shading. In other seasons it can be placed in a spot with direct sunlight.

About watering cacti: before each watering, be sure to check how dry the potting soil is, and wait until the potting soil is completely dry. Then water thoroughly, and by no means let water accumulate in the pot. If a potted plant has standing water for a long time, the cactus roots can easily rot, and eventually the whole body of the cactus will rot. So when growing cacti, you must learn to control water.

For a cactus in its flowering season, stop fertilizing. It is best to water less, just keeping the soil slightly dry. Placing it indoors in a spot with diffused light can effectively extend the flowering period. For a cactus whose flowers have finished, promptly prune and remove the spent flowers.
