Flower lovers all adore flowers, but unfortunately plants' blooming periods are short, and there's nowhere to put that longing to admire them. The following flowers, however, can satisfy flower lovers' love of flowers. These flowers all have very long blooming periods: once they bloom, it lasts six months to a year!

Madagascar periwinkle

The Madagascar periwinkle blooms for almost a whole year. It also comes in many colors, including red, purple, pink, white, yellow and more, and it is very well suited to being grown in pots. Used to decorate the home, it looks lovely. The Madagascar periwinkle loves sunlight, and during its growing period it must have plenty of sun, so that its leaves are emerald green and full of luster, pleasing to the eye, and its flowers will also be incomparably vivid.

Crown of thorns

Blooming period: 90 days-365 days

The crown of thorns has a very long lifespan; whether planted in the ground in a courtyard or grown in a pot, it can live for as long as a hundred years, and so it is also praised as the "longevity courtyard tree." In the past, people often used the crown of thorns as a birthday gift, presenting it to elderly men and women to honor them, implying longevity.

Hibiscus

Blooming period: 20 days-365 days

Also known as Chinese hibiscus (Zhu Jin). Its roots, leaves and flowers can all be used as medicine, with effects of clearing heat and promoting diuresis, and detoxifying and reducing swelling. In the south, Chinese hibiscus is mostly planted by ponds, in front of pavilions, along roadsides and by walls, blooming with large red flowers continuously all year round, exceptionally lively. In the Yangtze River basin and the north, it is often grown in pots to decorate balconies or small courtyards; under conditions of sufficient light, its ornamental period is especially long. It is also one of the main flowering potted plants placed in public places in summer and autumn.

Chinese rose

Blooming period: 150 days-180 days

The Chinese rose is praised as the "queen of flowers," and it has a spirit of unyielding toughness, with a fragrance that carries far. It originated in China, and was already cultivated as early as the Han Dynasty; after the Tang and Song dynasties it was planted without cease, and through the ages literati left behind many poems praising the Chinese rose. The famous Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi once wrote, "Blooming late after spring has gone, it stands alone in the middle of the courtyard." The Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo wrote, "Flowers fall and flowers bloom without interruption; spring comes and spring goes, unrelated to it. The peony is most precious but only in late spring; the herbaceous peony, though abundant, only in early summer. Only this flower blooms without tiring, and always occupies spring through all four seasons of the year." Han Qi of the Northern Song Dynasty praised it even more: "The peony, peerless, is left to the spring wind; the dew-covered chrysanthemum, sparse, complains in the late clump. Why is this flower so full of beauty, putting forth deep and light red through all four seasons?"

Geranium

The geranium's blooming period is also super long. Apart from the hot summer weather, it blooms from October to May of the following year, and the flowers come in many vivid colors; it can be grown in pots. This plant loves sunlight, and without enough light it will not bloom. When grown at home in spring, autumn and winter, it should be placed in a spot with direct sunlight, though it cannot be exposed to harsh sun. When it blooms, it can be moved indoors to admire, and after blooming it should be moved back to a spot with light.

Petunia

The petunia is very beautiful, with abundant flowers and rich colors. White, purple and various reds, and edged with other colors. Its blooming period is from April to winter, and it can bloom throughout, with the blooming period lasting more than half a year. The petunia fears neither heat nor cold, loves to drink water, and once well watered it does not fear the sun, blooming abundantly.

Orchid

Among orchids, the Chinese cymbidium has the longest blooming period, lasting as long as 2 months.

The orchid is a perennial herbaceous plant. Its roots are fleshy and swollen, without root hairs, and have symbiotic fungi. It has pseudobulbs, commonly called "reed heads," wrapped on the outside with leaf sheaths, and often several pseudobulbs are connected together, existing in a row at the same time. The leaves are linear or sword-shaped, leathery, upright or drooping; the flowers are solitary or in racemes, with many bracts borne on the pedicel.
