"What a beautiful jasmine flower, fragrant and lovely, blossoms covering every branch, so fragrant and white that everyone praises it..." This tune must surely be deeply branded in your mind by now - you can hum it just by seeing the lyrics, which shows that Chinese people's love for jasmine is no small matter. Jasmine culture truly has a long history in China; as far back as ancient times people wrote poems about jasmine, and today jasmine has also become one of the top choices for growing flowers at home.

Today Huahua wants to share with everyone how exactly this much-loved jasmine should be cared for.

About soil

You often hear that alkaline water should not be used on flowers that like acidic soil, and this flower is jasmine. Jasmine likes slightly acidic soil, so every month you need to add a little something to keep the soil acidic. Since both fertilizing and watering are done fairly frequently, the soil also needs good air permeability. For jasmine, humus leaf mold plus peat soil plus sandy loam is very suitable; mix them 3:3:4 and use it as jasmine's soil.

About watering

Jasmine likes a moist environment, so watering should be fairly frequent. In spring and autumn, water once every 2-3 days. In summer, when the temperature is high and evaporation is fast, you need to water more - ideally once before 8 in the morning and once after 6 in the evening. In winter, the soil needs to be a bit drier; watering about once every 6 days is enough. The principle for watering jasmine is simply to keep the soil slightly moist; if it gets rained on, remember to pour out the excess water in the pot.

About temperature

Jasmine is a tropical plant, so it likes warmth and cannot tolerate cold. In winter, make sure the temperature stays above 10°C; below 5°C will freeze and damage the jasmine. When summer temperatures rise above 38°C, jasmine will enter a dormant state because it is too hot. In winter, be sure to take good insulation measures for jasmine; in summer, give jasmine a bit of cooling down.

About light

Jasmine loves light and cannot lack it. In spring, autumn and winter it can be in the sun all day. In summer, apart from the hottest midday period when you prevent sunburn on the jasmine, it can be left in the sun at other times too. You could say it cannot live without the sun!

About fertilizer

Many plants like natural organic fertilizer, or can go without fertilizer, but jasmine is a plant that very much likes compound fertilizer. A compound fertilizer of any two among nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium will make jasmine grow better. When fertilizing, apply thin fertilizer frequently and fertilize often. During the growing period, fertilize once every 3-4 days; during the flowering period, apply diluted fertilizer water once every two days. Apply dilute fertilizer in autumn, and do not fertilize in winter.

Growing jasmine is actually very simple. As long as you are a bit diligent in daily care, you can have jasmine filling the whole house with fragrance. Plant a pot of jasmine now, and next year you can welcome jasmine that blooms three times in the season, and by then it will fill the whole house with fragrance - don't make people too envious.
