Although many succulents stop growing in summer, most flowering plants grow very vigorously in summer. After the flowers of the following five plants fade, you can cut off the branches and use them for cutting propagation. You can use water culture or soil culture methods for cuttings, so you can propagate many potted flowers of the same type.

1. Milan

Milan is an ornamental plant that blooms very brilliantly. In bright sunshine, the flowers also have a charming fragrance. It is generally propagated by stem cuttings.

Milan is very suitable for cuttings in warm summer weather. You can do it in the morning or evening, avoiding the afternoon or noon when the temperature is too high or the sunlight is strong. The semi-hardwood branch should be about 10 cm long. Remove the lower leaves and keep about 2 to 4 leaves at the top, which is enough.

Before cutting, be sure to prepare some rooting powder. After removing the leaves from the Milan branch, dip it in some rooting powder and insert it into loose sandy soil. Keep the soil moist, place it in a ventilated and bright location, and regularly mist water around it. It will soon take root and sprout.

If the ambient humidity is insufficient, you need to cover it with a transparent plastic bag, supported around with wire or wooden sticks, which helps maintain higher air humidity. You can poke a few holes at the bottom to maintain some ventilation.

2. Blue snowflake

Blue snowflake grows especially vigorously in summer and can produce charming small blue flowers. It likes a warm and humid environment year-round, and summer is also suitable for cuttings.

For cutting blue snowflake, it is best to use vermiculite with some water-retention capacity, or peat soil mixed with perlite. The cut branches should be robust, free of pests and diseases, and about 9 to 12 cm long.

Before inserting the branch, you can dip it in a little rooting powder and soak it in a rooting solution for half an hour. Insert it into slightly moist sandy soil, keep the soil moist, and it will soon take root and sprout.

3. Hydrangea

In summer, many hydrangeas have finished blooming, and there are also Endless Summer varieties blooming brilliantly. Summer is also suitable for propagating hydrangeas by cuttings.

After flowering, you can cut off hydrangea branches about 9 cm long, with 1 to 2 growth nodes. Hydrangea leaves are relatively large, so generally only two leaves at the top are enough. For larger leaves, cut off about 2/3 of the leaf.

To propagate hydrangeas by cuttings, prepare loose soil with good drainage. During the rooting period, keep the soil moist and maintain a certain level of air humidity.

4. Jasmine

Summer is the flowering season for jasmine. You can wait until the jasmine flowers fade, then take stem cuttings. First, choose some robust branches free of pests and diseases. It is best to cut some relatively tender soft branches for cuttings.

The cut branches do not need to be too long; one or two growth nodes are enough. The tender leaves at the top can be removed to avoid consuming too many nutrients. During the cutting process, keep it moist. You can regularly spray water around it to maintain relatively high air humidity.
