It is autumn, and the succulents have finally made it through the summer. With suitable temperatures, they are beginning to regain their vitality, and their leaves are gradually starting to grow. This is also the time to propagate succulents, leaf-propagate succulents, and add new succulents. But growing succulents requires many pots. If you cannot find pots, use the plastic cups or paper cups from home after drinking water to plant them, which is eco-friendly and practical.

The specific method of growing succulents in plastic cups

Usually after we drink water, we throw the cups away after a single use. In fact, they can be collected to grow some beautiful succulents. They are quite clean themselves, so they can be used directly without washing. Use an iron nail to poke several holes in the bottom, or use a red-hot iron wire to burn two or three small holes, to facilitate air circulation and drainage.

Fill with nutrient soil or peat soil, and add some garden soil, fine sand, vermiculite or perlite, and other granular materials to the soil to increase air permeability.

Especially for succulents just bought back, the plants are not particularly large, basically small seedlings, one by one, so they do not need much nutrients. Growing in a cup for a few months to half a year is completely fine.

Before planting the succulents, let the roots dry in the sun for a while first. Some roots also need to be trimmed. When planting, straighten out the roots and plant them into the cup. If the soil is moist, you can skip watering for the time being; otherwise, water thoroughly. Place it in a ventilated, semi-shaded spot. Be sure to open the window for ventilation, otherwise the roots will easily rot and the leaves will drop. Before the soil dries out, do not water again. After acclimating for more than a week, resume normal care.

The advantage of growing succulents in plastic cups is that watering is also very easy to judge. If the soil at the bottom is still wet, there is no need to water again. Moreover, whether roots have grown, and whether new roots have developed, can all be seen very clearly. Then, when transplanting into flower pots later, it is also very easy. Just cut the cup with scissors and take it out together with the soil.

This transparent plastic cup can also be used to take cuttings of rose, geranium, petunia, Rosa multiflora, and hydrangea, because whether roots have grown is clear at a glance, and whether the root system is sufficient and whether it can be transplanted can also be seen very clearly.
