Registration for the 2018 National Seed Exchange is now open
For every kind of seed, there is a corresponding cuisine and culture; when a seed disappears, a food culture disappears with it.
Since the twentieth century, under a global business model that favors high economic value, many seeds and crops have gradually vanished from fields and markets, never again appearing on our tables. The decline in crop diversity deprives seeds of the chance to develop new genetic traits, and raises the specter of a long-term food crisis.
In view of this, a series of seed-saving movements have been launched around the world in recent years. Civil organizations in many countries have advocated that farmers save their own seeds, actively hold seed exchange events, and invite farmers from various places to participate, strengthening the capacity for seed conservation.
In October 2018, we will hold Taiwan's first nationwide seed exchange.
Please set aside the seeds you have in advance and bring them to the venue to exchange with farmers and gardening enthusiasts, so that together, for our land, we may prepare the food culture of the coming year.
